I fell off the wagon after 2 years (EQ)

I went and bought EverQuest for some idiotic reason yesterday :(. I’m already level 16 with a full suit of newbie quest armour and my ass hurts from sitting down so much.

I haven’t played for over 2 years so needless to say the game is A LOT different. It almost seems too easy now with all the changes they’ve made but that just means I’ll shoot up to 50+ even faster.

Does anybody around here still play? What do you think about the changes they’ve made in the last two years? Do you agree about the game being a little too easy now? And what’s with them doing all this stuff that they swore they would NEVER do in a MILLION years such as the spellbinder and the free teleports (plane of knowledge)?

If anyone wants to play I’m Gnoshame on the Stromm server. You got some catching up to do if you don’t already have a character there though  .

I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe this was just what you needed, eh? Something of a distraction. As long as you can put it down again after a while.

I may get back into it when EQ2 comes out. The screenshots I’ve seen are beautiful.

EQ2 will be easy to avoid. I’ll just never buy it in the first place. Yes! That’s the plan!

MMORPGs have never interested me.

While I can understand the appeal of multi-player gaming, I’ve always much preferred the single-player gaming experience. Must be my inner hermit at work.

I’m the opposite. Single player usually winds up boring me. Playing against other people is endlessly fascinating.

Cisco,

My hubby is addict…er… plays. Let me know which server you are on…

He’s Gnoshame on Stromm points up

Jesus, 16th level in two days? Took me a year to get that far, and that was with a 30th level friend twinking me like mad.

Finally got sick of it when I was around 24th, and haven’t looked back since.

:smack:

EQ2 will be very easy for me to avoid; I won’t be able to afford a new computer capable of running it.

Level 20 now. Just taking a little breather while the servers are down :).

I know I’m not the only powergamer on the SDMB…who wants to play?!!

Dude, you MUST have someone PL’n you AND twinking the shit out of you for you to be lvl 20 in 2 days. Theres no way you made it that fast on your own using equipment that is normal for that lvl range.

FTR, it took me about 2 months to hit 20, and that was with 4 hours or so a day of playing.

Nope…the server is only a week old so even if I had friends to PL me and twink me it wouldn’t do me any good because, well, they would be out PL’ing themselves ;).

If I was PL’ed and twinked I could make 50 in 2 days (pushing it…but it’s possible.)

Once you know the game well enough you get to know the good spots, what to do when, how not to die…etc. 20 in 2 days is cake. The server is only a week old and there are already level 53’s.

FWIW, I agree with GMRyujin. I completely lost all intrest in single player games the day I laid my hands on Everquest. I thought Morrowind would curb my EQ cravings but it just smacked me in the face with the reality of how incredibly boring single player games really are.

I’m still good with RPGs (I may start Morrowind tonight), but I just can’t play single player FPSes since CounterStrike. I get halfway in and I hit the jumping puzzles and idiot sidekicks and broken bridges and start rolling my eyes and going “I could’ve been playing CS.”

Well, when you can’t shout for a loc or tell your friends that you levelled while playing Morrowind just keep telling yourself “I could’ve been playing EQ” :).

Former EQ addict here. It’s been almost 7 months since I logged on. I was playing EQ since the servers first went public, and never got a character over 53.

Almost a year ago TPTB really reduced the amount of XP needed to gain your first 12 levels, and have increased XP modifiers in many lowbie zones. They also jacked the XP bonuses for grouping and removed all the negative class XP modifiers…

That explains how easy it is now to get to 20+ compared to 2 years ago.

I’m holding out for Star Wars: Galaxies… Trade skills that mean something! Booyah.

I’ll believe THAT when I see it.

I’m playing Dungeon Siege now. Played the demo last night and loved it. Picked it up used for $15. Very cool.

I can only hope that it’s true. One of the features that I love is that finished products will carry the name of the creator, and the creator will gain experience as that product is used. Here’s to hoping it actually is a good system.

Dungeon Siege - I picked it up when it came out, and played for a bit before deciding it was a Diablo II clone and uninstalled it. I may just give it another shot sometime.

I’d love for one game, just one, to have tradeskilling as a viable, fun alternative to levelling via combat. Earth and Beyond came pretty close.

It’s a 3D D2 clone, but it has a use-based system (like I was ranting about in some other thread), which I thought was pretty cool. Held my attention longer than NeverWinter Nights.
