If you have met the Doper in question, or have seen her or his picture in one of the “pic threads” than please don’t include your impression of that Doper here.
This is purely for the impression you have built up over time by way of things the Doper has said or hinted at about how he or she looks, or by way of those mental images we all tend to form based on maybe nothing in particular.
I had a revelation recently when I saw Kalhoun’s picture in the latest “pic thread” and even commented to her how it wrecked by mental image of her. And there are others whose pictures have come as surprises. I’d say my mental image is right or nearly so, maybe half (or less) of the time.
But that doesn’t prevent the process from taking place. I have some form of mental image of almost every Doper whose gender I’m pretty sure of, and even some whose gender, age, nationality, “race” or whatever hasn’t been specified yet.
Here’s you chance to verbalize those striking images you have formed.
Heh-heh. Eve told me she always pictured me kind of like Foghorn Leghorn. I picture Zeldar…just like Zeldar. Probably playing ring toss with his wife’s cone.
Zeldar, I picture you as a not-to-tall, not-too-big dark-haired white guy, perhaps with an olive complexion. Wearing a blue knit shirt with a golden-yellow lightning bolt across the front.
Hippy_Hollow I picture as a Denzel Washington type, but maybe with John Lennon glasses and an extra few pounds. No real reason, just his style of writing I guess
Diogenes the Cynic is a middle-aged guy with dark hair, maybe like Gary Sinise, but with a deeper voice. Stranger on a Train has messy, jet-black hair, like Tom Cruise’s son in War of the Worlds but a few years older. Sarahfeena has really short, deep red hair, like Sarah McLachlan circa Surfacing. Incubus looks like the lead singer from Incubus (go figure). WhyNot has a really round face, shoulder-length dark hair with pink streaks, full/curvy figure. tomndebb is Mark Harmon but a bit younger. catsix is petite with brown hair and really intense eyes. Kalhoun is Tina Fey. matt_mcl is Ben Affleck. Tuckerfan looks just like my old boss-- tall and wiry, short reddish brown hair, moustache. Lynn Bodoni looks kind of like Julianne Moore, but with darker hair. Hippy_Hollow is Jeffrey Wright.
Being a little familiar (at least in memory) with the Leslie Caron Gigi from way back when, I have a little bit of influence from that image, but mostly I visualize gigi as a cross between Sarah Vowell (more for voice and facial expressions) and Amy Sedaris (for the impish qualities).
Kalhoun always struck me as the no-bullshit mom we were all afraid of when we went over our friends houses…the one that limited the amount of snacks we could have .
With a look, I was wrong
Liberal always struck me as the grumpy 40 something guy who played chess against college prof’s to show them they were nitwits. Then go home and revel in it on his own in a Dr. Evil sort of way. Probably a nice chap though…
Qadgop - always struck me as the white coat doctor who was completely in shape and everyone got pissed at because he took care of himself and we didn’t. Then I realized he was as normal as the rest of us.
I’m 5’9", 210, graying (mostly gray) brown hair, salt-and-pepper beard, wire-rim glasses, rarely wear knit shirts and none of them have any insignia at all.
My wife says I have “Raymond Burr” eyes, but I can’t be sure what she means except they’re kinda puffy. Others have said I look like Shelby Foote but my nose is more pug than his.
Der Trihs is in his early thirties, has a beard, and looks like an alternative rock/activist guy. RedFury looks the same, but younger.
Johnny L.A. is a cocky-looking guy with spiked black hair and a goatee. Since he’s a serious rider I always imagine him with a motorcycle jacket (one of the really professional-looking ones made of synthetic fabrics and Kevlar, not a leather one.)
clairobscur looks like the guys in Air. I have no idea how old he is or what he actually looks like but when I think of French guys I think of Air.
I know Kalhoun is a woman but every time I see the name, I think of my friend Mark, because his AIM screen-name was Kuhndog for years. The two names are just too similar in the way they look at first glance for me to see anything but Mark when I think of Kalhoun.
You’re much, much prettier than I had a right to expect!!! Someone with so many wonderful traits such as you have, doesn’t have a right to be so good looking.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a female Zeldar character. Beldar was Dan Aykroyd’s Conehead name (see above). Maybe Zelda Fitzgerald (F. Scott’s wife) made it to the comics, Betty Boop style? No clue, otherwise.
