Catsix, STFU!

To post an anti-gun control snipe in the middle of the thread on the VT shootings is a new low. I’m one of the strongest proponents for less gun control on this board, and I think you did more damage to our cause with that one post than any number of reasoned arguments by the opposition. Just shut the fuck up.

I think she and I are on the same side of the gun-control debate, but that was absolutely the wrong time and place to bring it up.

Shame on you, catsix.

I had to bite back a response to her. Not only was it inappropriate, but it’s retarded.

The shooter fired on people in a classroom. Who in the hell would have been carrying a gun in that setting, even if the law allowed? Those guns, in all probability, would have been left at home, tucked under someone’s pillow. The victims would still be victims.

There’s nothing worse than a stupid AND inappropriate pro-gun argument.

Yea, as soon as I saw her post I knew it would not end well. Talk about a time and a place

So if the law stated that everybody had to carry a gun 24/7/365, would gun violence end?

To be fair to her, she hasn’t posted in the thread since. It looks like she has in fact shut the fuck up.

Still inappropriate for her to bring her politics into it, though.

I think it’s perfectly clear that what would have helped immensely in the VT or any similar situation is *more * people shooting at each other. Yup.

So yeah, both inappropriate and just really fucking stupid.

This is the second time in a week that I get to call catsix out for being a complete asshole.

catsix seems to have the belief - unfortunately common on the Dope, but few take it to the extremes she does - that being morally correct upon the issues obviates the need for circumspection or civility. Since catsix has all the answers and is absolutely right, I’m sure in her mind for her not to blunder into a thread and dispense her wisdom in a urine-like stream upon us would actually be a sin.

In short: I am embarassed that she shares some of the same opinions that I do, and tars me with her lack of basic human decency. I’d tell her to fuck off, except that might imply her gaining some sort of self-pleasure. Given that she’s already filled to the brim with her own self-satisfaction, I hope she just goes away.

I don’t see what’s so over the top about Catsix’s post. He/she expresses how awful the shooting was, just like everyone else in the thread was doing, just with a different angle than your typical poster.

It’s probably in bad taste to bring up gun control right off the bat in a situation like this, but I don’t think it’s as bad as everybody is making it out to be. Let’s face it. This is the SDMB. This was going to come around to being about gun control eventually.

I don’t see what’s wrong with bringing up related issues in a thread about a shooting. Others in the thread mention medications and video games as being the cause. Are they as out of line as Catsix? I notice that they didn’t get a mod warning or a pit thread.

Jesus Haploid Christ- I’ve had issues with Catsix before, but this takes the cake.

Can we also pit 2GigCh1? Specifically, for this:

.

I love video games. I hate guns. And there’s a huge fuckin’ difference between my keyboard/mouse and my friend’s gun.

Politicizing a tragedy to suit your own interests is offensive.

SSRIs and video games don’t carry the same baggage.

He tried to pull back to claiming it didn’t provide motive but “practice”. Unless you’re playing Duck Hunt or Hogan’s Alley on the NES, or maybe Time Crisis, aiming with a mouse at some pixels doesn’t even help practice aiming at a person with a gun.

@Catsix: too soon man, too soon

You said it yourself. Eventually. Not now.

Um, me? I’ve carried on campus…

Still, there’s a time and place. If Catsix hadn’t posted, just like Debaser said, we’d see the inevitable “If only guns were illegal this would never happen” post, and then is the proper time to pop in with a reality check.

Still, I was expecting something much more before I read her post. That’s pretty darn mild for Catsix. Bad timing, mostly.

Not only an asshole, but a moron.

Allowing students to carry firearms for self-defense would have made this better? Can you imagine the confusion? Or do bad people conveniently wear black hats in her imagination?

If you’re talking about the post where she said “Another gun-free school zone in which the victims had no chance at all of defending themselves.”, hey, you can bitch about her lack of tact and make the time and place argument, and I’ll agree with you, but on the facts, she’s dead on. When I heard the story on the radio, my thought was “Damn, if only one or two of those kids in that classroom had a CCP and was carrying, how many lives might have been saved?”

Oh, thought the title said Cait Sith. Woops.

Umm… getting on topic, was this really a surprise to anyone? The politicalization and gun control debate that is, not the shooting of course.

nit-pick: according to eye-witnesses, bad people actually wear black coats, not black hats.

On Edit Wierddave: it’s not clear. If somebody comes in shooting it’s pretty clear who to shoot back at. But what if somebody ELSE with a CCP is chasing the gunman down, runs in afterwards, and is confused for a second aggressor? What if several people simultaneously converge on the actual aggressor? shoot whoever shoots first? Shoot everybody? it gets complicated incredibly quickly.

Oh, I realize that. But you know what? I bet the outcome is better than 30 innocent, unarmed people slaughtered like cows in a chute.

Yeah, not only was that rude, it was rude and not very accurate.

I for one am a lot better with an actual gun than a computer game. I suck at any kind of video game where you have to be fast and accurate, but I’m pretty good at blowing clay pigeons out of the sky.
