I’m curious, maybe it’s because my girlfriend is from there and that makes me biased to notice but there seems to be a disproportionate amount of Dopers from Ohio. Is there a worldmap with Doper distribution on it?
I believe there wa a thread a while back where we mapped out the locations of a bunch of Dopers. I’ll have to do a search for it.
You are quite right though, Ohio does have the largest concentration of geniuses on the planet!
Which, of course, has nothing whatsoever to do with what the OP asked.
I remember that thread, though. It used GoogleMaps, I think. Interesting concentrations around the globe, in very unlikely areas.

was a long thread about non USA dopers and where there are and where they are from.
I think there was another thread which charted the locations of the USA dopers, no doubt linked somewhere
Sure it does! We Dopers are smart, and there are a bunch of us in Ohio.
Anyways, I couldn’t find the thread but I did find the map:
Of course, any attempt to find out the exact geographic distribution of Dopers is likely to be limited by those of us who decline to identify our location, or fail to update our location when we move.
Again, you are confusing correlation with causality.
Also…some of us are in Ohio, but originally from [del]Michigan[/del] elsewhere.
I’m pretty sure Idle Thoughts has a thread out there where he listed Dopers by part of the world and broke out U.S. Dopers by state. (Too tired to search for it…)

I concur. The handful of people I’ve met from Ohio were all kinda crazy, but I am not fully convinced that Ohio is full of nutters… yet.
There is indeed a thread but the search function seems to be truly broken at least for me.
You are right that there are a disproportionate amount of intelligent Dopers in Ohio. Back in 2001, we were seeing an influx of people that were dragging the board down in many ways. The idea was to pre-screen Dopers much like they do Jeopardy contestants. We decided to give the idea a try with the most “average” state, Ohio. After months of work, the results came in. The idea worked in some ways. Out of the approximately 11,000,000 people in Ohio, we identified 12 quality Dopers or about 1 in 1,000,000 residents. We don’t know if that is bad or good because it was too expensive to try on another state after that.
Ohioans are the only ones who consistently post their real locations on their profile, as we’re the only people who are proud of our state! Woohoo!
(on a side note: has anyone ever noticed how there is ALWAYS someone from Ohio in “Letters to the Editor” sections in magazines? Or do I only notice this because I am from Ohio?)
Don’t know how I missed that the last time around. I added myself so now it is complete.
I didn’t think a Michigander could survive in the heart of Buckeye land.
Anyhow, there are also some of us who no longer live in Ohio.
Well, I just like being reasonably factually accurate. Though I live in the Buckeye State, in “the Heart of it all”, I don’t count myself as an Ohioan: I’m an Australian / New South Welshman.
There must be a LOT of ignorance to fight in Ohio.
Or a lot of ignorance being fought
A native Ohioan had inclination enough and time to search and locate said thread.
Seems from that thread to be alot more in Indiana. I must just have noticed Ohio because I’ve visited a few times.
Go Hoosiers!
When I did my postcard project and got Dopers to send my students postcards from all over our fine planet, I actually did notice that I had a disproportionate amount of cards from Ohio.
Hm. Makes you think.
Well, not really. I actually am not a big fan of Ohio at all. The people are perfectly pleasant, of course, but it always struck me as a pretty dull place, scenery-wise.
