Dopers around the World

How are dopers distributed around the World? What proportion of members live in the USA, and what proportion live in other countries?

Is this information available at all? Or a reasonable estimate within a few percent?

Well, there’s no chance you’re going to find data to back up your “Majority live outside of the USA” claim.

BTW, someone made one of those maps a few years back. Where everyone enters their city/country and it makes a map with little dots all over it. If it’s still around, it will give a pretty good representation I’m betting. Anyone know where that is? You may want to try searching MPSIMS for “map location” and stuff like that. But I dont know if it is in the archives now and not searchable.
Good luck.

The SDMB frappr map.

There was this thread from a year ago: Let’s see how many states/provinces/countries we have people here from

And this thread from a month ago: Non-USA Dopers: Stand and Be Counted. Please.

I seem to remember someone doing a whole lot of statistics work and coming up with a rough figure of 75% Americans.

Wow, so overwhelmingly USA folks, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

That could just be evidence that Frappr is shit at dealing with non-US locations

But rough polls in threads might not give a true picture. Only a small fraction of all dopers responded to them. I for one did not spot them at the time.

Is the location of members available to the admins?

If not the actual location of members, what about views of the website? The host for my own website provides me with information about views on my webpage. I can tell that 39% of hits come from USA, 10% from UK, etc. I presume that similar information is available to the admins here.

Sure, we can look at the “Location” field, just like members. As for your other questions…I can do IP lookups on people, but I do it ONE AT A TIME. I don’t know if vBulletin offers such information about our members as you describe. It’s quite possible that there’s some way of getting this information out of the admin section, but I don’t know it.
