My wife and I just bought and installed one of these. I must admit we didn’t just buy it to feed the birds but for the entertainment of the siamese attack kittens a.k.a Loki and Lucille. We had no idea what was going to happen. We thought originally that we may not get any birds coming into it because of the cats…but contrary to popular belief the birds came rather quickly, and our cats now have cheap entertainment that seems to be working like feline crack. Just like young children love the T.V. and become hopelessly addicted to it, so do cats apparently with the in-window bird feeders… Anyone else have one of these? How does it work for you? Our cats are spending hours just staring at the birds…I’m having some feelings of angst because I can tell they just want to lung at the thing and grab a little wren or pheobe to munch on…but they can’t. I dunno how do you folks feel about these?

We had one of those up for a while. But worse was when birds actually built a nest in our porch. The lure of oblivious birds eating near a cat is bad enough, but the lure of baby birds nearby is a thousand times stronger. Our cats were glued to the window for weeks, making the “frustrated noise” frequently.
I’m with you, Cal. A cardinal family has set up house beneath one of the bedroom windows. Rascal will sit there for hours, staring at the newly-hatched babies. When the parents notice him, they screetch and dive-bomb the (closed) window until we think to lower the shades.
I just have the regular kind of birdfeeder, for the birds - but the cats love love love it. They never get tired of watching.
I did have a birdfeeder, but the squirrels gnawed it down and broke it.
These days, if I want to draw birds close for the entertainment of the cats, I’ll throw some handfuls of birdseed or bread crusts out onto the patio. The cats will sit with their noses to the sliding-door glass, fascinated and motionless, occasionally making ‘come closer, little birdie’ chirping noises. If a bird or squirrel come very close to the other side of the glass, however, they are beside themselves with confused excitement and may either leap at the glass or run away (or both in turn).
It isn’t just birds. Bird feeders draw squirrels in this neck of the woods — also raccoons. Our family’s cats would crouch on the windowsill and watch any living animal outside, it seemed. Of course, they’d also sit on the windowsill and watch nothing at all. Nobody surveys his domain with the majesty of a cat in a sunbeam.
Oh god, Maggie would go apeshit.
She LOVES watching the birds and the squirrels outside the back window, where my mother arranged several feeders, and some seeds on the ground, as well as suet bricks. She gets all excited and start clawing at the windows. It’s hysterical to watch.
The other ones like it too, but not as much as Mags.
(Oh, and why am I the only one following the rules?) 
between the Kitty Food Network (fish tanks) and Kitty Outdoor Life (birds in backyard tree) Marmalade keeps pretty busy… if he had a feeder like that to watch he might exceed the speed of life running from place to place and open a hole in space time or something 
That is the best thing I’ve ever seen for Kitty TV (that’s what we call our fish tank).
I’m so sad that we have all casement windows.
