How do I remove anti-theft tags from clothes?

I'm not a shoplifter. This afternoon I went on a shopping trip and stopped in a sporting goods store. Among other things I purchased a jockstrap. When I got home and opened it's packaging I discovered it had an anti-theft device attacked. The jockstrap came in a sealed package, which explains why the cashier didn't remove it. I don't really feel like driving half an hour each way to go back to the store. Is there anway I can remove it myself?

While I have sympathy for your situation, I'm not about to let a thread about "How to removed anti-theft devices from clothes" proceed.
