Aishwarya Rai is going to be in the next Pink Panther???

Wow, that's just - wow. It's rare I see famous Indian actors or actresses starring in American movies. And I realize Pink Panther 2 - with Steve Martin - isn't exactly the greatest movie of all time. But I am still stunned and pleased to hear it. I mean, I saw Temple of Doom, and I love Om Prakash, but still - he was a villain.

Pink Panther 2 IMDB page.

Aishwarya Rai

It's in production, which means of course that it could disappear entirely or never exist, but I am still happy.

HEY! John Cleese is in it too! Maybe it won't be so bad.

Cool.

I am all for having more Indian hotties in American movies. I hope they make PP 2. I really liked the first one.

I can't believe there is going to be another Pink Panther.

sigh.

Mr. Martin must need some money. I wonder what movie he will make for making this?

I heard they were filming here in Boston a few weeks ago, don't know if they still are. Maybe I'll bump into her.

I misread the title, and thought that she was going to be the next Pink Panther. "She's playing an large and unusually pigmented gem? That should be... interesting."

Expect to see more of it as the proportion of box office revenue coming from overseas continues to increase.

(And this is hardly a bad thing, by the way. Hollywood following money = Hollywood reflecting a global culture. We could do with a significantly less lily-white mainstream culture.)

I could look at her all day long, and to the best of my knowledge, I'm heterosexual.

That's all I got. She's so very, very beautiful.

I did the same. I was thinking it was already bad enough having Alan Arkin and Steve Martin stepping into Peter Sellers' shoes.

Kevin Kline was in the last one. Didn't help it.

"Pink Panther" was so bad it made me lose my faith in God. And that was despite having a talented cast and a certified hottie. Replacing the hottie with another hottie isn't quite enough to make me think it's not going to suck.

I remember the days when dusky actresses were not welcome in Indian cinema, or were made to look as light as possible. Look at Rekha. She is dusky but they made her up to look so light all her life.

I like Aishwarya but I also have a small problem with her fans. They say she is the best that ever existed. I am a Rekha fan, and feel Aishwarya is a good actress, and a good dancer, and very beautiful - but she hasn't put in her time yet. When she's been in the industry 30+ years and still beautiful and still breaking hearts, then I'll acknowledge she's one of the best.

Yes, I know. Neither the Pink Panther nor the Thin man played much of a part in the sequels still named after them.

What, are you kidding? Look over Steve Martin's page at IMDB. Of the features he's made, nearly a third of them (that I'm sure of) are bad remakes or sequels to same, from Pennies From Heaven through his first Pink Panther. And that's not even counting Roxanne and Simple Twist of Fate, which are really also remakes.

He's not doing anyone a favor by appearing in Pink Panther 2. This is his stock in trade.

Bite your tongue! Pennies is the best movie he's ever done (and will likely ever do).

But is is discouraging that anyone would ever think there was a demand for more of Steve's PP (or Cheaper by the blank or Father of the whatever).

I'd never heard of Ms. Kaif before, but your post led me to Google her.

She is quite fetching, isn't she?

Lovely girl, but she's UK-born. Aishwarya actually is Indian. Not that it makes much difference to me, but I do like the idea that Indian-born girls have a chance like this.

So speaks the Indian-born girl.

I have always thought Martin Short should have been the one to be the next Pink Panther. He always did a good Frenchman. I was very disappointed with Steve Martin.

Yes, in fact he did a pretty funny Frenchman opposite Steve Martin, so you would think Martin would know the difference.
