Can a hotel manager just storm into your room?

I was on Ocean City, Maryland once and there were roughly 9 of us. We rented two rooms and we were honest about the number of guests, and we paid the extra 20 bucks a head. Well, we were all around 21-23 years of age and we had a few beers, nothing big, no party etc…

Well, Ocean City, Maryland is party zone for teens after they graduate during May and June, it’s called senior week. We were there at that time, but not for senior week, just because it is a nice place at times.

Long story short, the manager came banging on the door about an hour after we checked in and demanded to come in the room to see if we were partying. I politely said no, we rented the room for the night and this was our home for the night. He demanded and began getting very belligerent and aggitated and accused me of lying about the number of people there.

I said, “sir, there are 8 people in here, but they have their own room, we’re just hanging out.” He said, “I KNOW you have more people out there hiding on your balconey ! I heard you all partying and you’re gonna be arrested if you’re lying to me!”

So he stormed in past me and ran out on the balcony and saw the 9th person out there smoking a cig. Yup, only one person out there.

He then peaked his head in the bathroom and shower ! What if there were someone in there? Total dick this guy was.

Anyway, he felt like a TOTAL dumbass, then he mumbled something and walked out.

Was he allowed to do this? Just storm in the room after being told he can’t come in?

Did this happen to you again?

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for that. I was sure I’d read that before. I couldn’t figure out if it was me or diggleblop that had gone off their meds.

My understanding is that Hotel Management may enter your room if they have reason to believe you are doing something illegal or you are destroying hotel property.

This is on the Internet so it must be true (but I think it is)… was it “illegal” to have +9 people there? Could he say you were destroying hotel property? I dunno but if he could justify that way I think he probably could theoretically have acted in the matter that is still outraging you all this time later "Just storm in the room after being told he can’t come in?"

One might want to read the contract between you and the hotel. It probably has language covering the situation. Just a guess.

Reminder: Check back in October 2008, for more on this issue.

Sorry, diggleblop. One try per customer. Sorry you weren’t satisfied with the answers the first time.
