Damn!
How sad.
Well today officially sucks.
Lola Granola had a tattoo of him on her tuckus.
Man that’s sad. I love his music.
I don’t even know who Dan Folgerburp is!
He earned a lifetime pass from me for “Same Old Lang Syne”. Strangely fitting that he passed during the season his song gets broken out the most often. Requiescat in pace.
He’s still a living legacy, as far as I’m concerned.
This is awful. I wasn’t a huge fan of his in my younger days, but his music grew on me. And that is way to young to die.
Guys-you might want to get your prostates checked. Just saying…
That is sad news indeed.
The snow turns into rain
<sigh> The only singer for whom I have the entire opus. This sucks.
Lifetime pass for Leader of the Band, in my book. All other songs about fathers pale in comparison.
And in those eyes, I wasn’t sure if I saw doubt or gratitude…
We used the song Longer at our wedding.
Aw man, what a sad day. We got into him pretty heavy back in our teens when Souvenirs came out and he remained hugely popular with us through Twin Sons of Different Mothers. Recently I kinda revisited those days, repurchasing his first five releases on cd. Tonite will be a good nite to play them through once again, although I imagine they’ll come with an added layer of poignancy and reflection.
Ah dang. His music accompanied me during a time of my life that I have happy memories of. I tend to get all goopy when I hear his songs. Shoot.
I learned a lot of his stuff on guitar early on - Part of the Plan and a few others - so I owe him thanks for providing cool songs that I wanted to learn how to play. He was a thoughtful musician and songwriter.
Unfortunately, we’ve decided that this type of comment in a funeral thread isn’t a rules violation… although it does border on thread-shitting, we’ve always said that we can’t limit content of posts (even in an obit thread), and negative comments about entertainers/artists must be allowed.
So, I’m taking my moderator hat off, and posting as just a member to say: Adam, this is really a nasty, shitty, and unfeeling comment. This is the Straight Dope Message Board; our job is fighting ignorance, not admitting it in an offensive way. The OP has an obit notice, and the website has a biography, which you could read easily.
I also feel greatly saddened that this death was (probably) avoidable. Prostate cancer is almost always treatable, fully curable, if diagnosed early. Any male over age 40 should have an annual physical exam that includes testing (PSA from blood sample, for instance.) I speak from personal experience, as well as having read much about prostate cancer when I had it.
