what's your favorite Steely Dan song?

a very tough call, but I’m going to say Kid Charlemagne.

might have been Peg, had not that one been so over played on the radio.

runner up is Any Major Dude Will Tell You.

I always liked “Any World (That I’m welcome to)”.

Kid Charlemagne’ s good. So is Don’t Take Me Alive.

Got a soft spot for Deacon Blues too.

My Old School

“Chain Lightning,” with “Deacon Blues” and “Cousin Dupree” vying for second place.

If I had to pick, I’d say “Reelin’ in the years,” because of the awesome guitar solo. But really, I don’t think of Steely Dan as having individual songs. I just think of them as an ethereal substance, that has no beginning or ending. It just is. Like The Dude, they abide.

a nice way to put it.

those lyrics, that music - the synergy is major.

scuze me, I have to go find my shades.

Yep…that’s the very first song I thought of too.

The Cuervo Gold
The fine Colombian
Make tonight a wonderful thing

Deacon Blues

Another vote for Reelin’ in the years.

Excellent.

Whenever I try to think of my favorite Steely Dan song, another tune pops into my head as soon as I land on one.

Bad Sneakers *and a piña colada my friend *

Choosing is hard, because there are so many great to even greater songs, and few misses, in their catalog. But, if you put a gun to my head (you did put a gun to my head for this, didn’t you?), in no particular order:

King of the World
Pearl of the Quarter
Peg

Just a couple of days ago, Deacon Blues came on the radio, and I was thinking how well Steely Dan’s music has held up, and how much I still enjoy it.

Favorite song: Don’t Take Me Alive.

now I’m thinking Show Biz Kids needs to be on the list. second runner up, I guess.

there are just so many excellent songs!

She prays like a Roman with her eyes on fire.

When Josie comes home, so nice.
That or you gotta love,

“They got a name for the blah in the world,
I wanna name for just when I lose.

Drink Scotch whiskey, all night long,
call me Deacon Blues.”

“The cuervo gold, that fine Columbian,
make tonight a wonderful night.”

Oh fuck I guess I’m the uncoolest person ever among Gen-X-ers admitting to having a big freak on for the Dan – let me tell you now, it ain’t something you admit in public, boy! I almost got in a fistfight with a clubowner who said I looked like Donald Fagen with my black cashmere sportcoat on during a rehearsal at his bar.

Security Jooooaaan. Search me now! (Probably my favorite – great Rhodes piano, great tune. Not a Dan tune but it fucking works).

I felt the wand sweep over me, you know I never felt so clean.

You know I love, love love you, Security Joan. (Search me now!)

Hey don’t give me the hi-hat, mang! I already thought they call Alabama the Crimson Tide.
