SDMB Bad Habits.

I would be the first to admit that I am not your ideal poster. I have a collection of bad practices with regard to posting on the SDMB.

The one which has inspired me to start this thread is the following...

I tend to see a thread title or the first third of an OP and have formed not only my relevant contribution, but how I'm going to word it... before I finish fully absorbing the OP.

At about that point (third way through) I feel the impulse to get my contribution off my chest while it is fresh. I worry that if I give it too much time and finish reading the OP my contribution will become over-thought, and clouded by doubt and second-thought.

Which is ridiculous because most of what I post isn't exactly inspirational or even unique... So why am I worrying about ruining something that's allready bad at best? I would probably write better contributions if I did allow them to be thought-out .... but my dominating impulsive side won't let me.

That's it I blame my dominating impulsive self... It's not my fault it's my fault.

Edit: Another bad habit... Not finishing off my OP..

edit 2: A third: I tend to avoid opening threads with large numbers of replies... thinking that I could not possibly add to what has already been said. And even if I do add something unique it will be lost/forgotten in the crowd of other replies. edit 3: And it would mean I'd have to read all the other replies!!

What are your bad habits (if you have any) and what are your ways to avoid the bad habits that may get mentioned after this OP?

I all too often skim (and I do mean skim) longer threads to the last few posts, and if I feel like backtracking . . . then I do. Many times I'll reply to something in those last few posts which sometimes are off in their own discussion, away from the OP.

I admit, I can't keep up with who is who, and apply a personality to a post. Therefore, known crap from THE GRAPIST!(a known troll) may get the same attention from say, Lobsang or some other well known, coherent poster.

Maybe not a bad habit: I just don't give a crap about some of the politics between posters. I don't have the energy for it. If an on-board Pit/Debate session happens between two posters, I don't care about who is right, I care about what is right. I have far too short time to spend giving a darn about the mentalities or backgrounds of posters. What you post is what I get.

I know, you've skimmed the first sentence of each of my paragraphs. S'okay.
