Guitar Hero III PC

So I'm liking this game, except for the fact that some of the songs (a) suck and (b) I don't know 'em. This has to be a really stupid question, but how do I hear the whole song before I try to play it?

Man, I was gonna post a GH thread today, but if you don't mind, I'll hijack yours.

Not sure of the numbers or such, but my son brought home Guitar Hero yesterday. Seemed like all but 1 or 2 of the tunes were pretty basic guitar-oriented classic pop-rock. IIRC, the first 8 songs included Pat Benatar:Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Cream:Sunshine of Your Love, Heart:Barracuda, and the like. Some piece of crap by Poison. I think the first extra song he earned was Kiss: Rock and Roll. Not exactly obscure material. Heck, an hour or 2 listening to classic rock radio should fill in any gaps.

But my question concerned one of the initial 8 songs. He handed me the axe, I scrolled down through the options, and what to my wondering eye should appear but Story of My Life by Social D. What the hell is one of my fave songs buy one of my fave bands doing on this game? Seriously, how the heck does a song like that make it onto a mass-market game. It isn't as tho Social D ever ejoyed tremendous commercial success or airplay.

The one good thing was that when I hacked up the tune and the game stared booing me, I knew how to respond while staying in character. "FUCK OFF, mutha-FUCKAHS!"

Good clean family fun.

You can't hear the whole song before you play it, just the preview. But they are ranked by difficulty.

Social D was hardly underground or anything. There are alot of bands far more "obscure" than SD on GH. Story of my Life, Ball and Chain, Ring of Fire were all pretty popular tunes in their time.

Practice!

There is a practice mode that will allow you to play through the entire song, or just parts if you choose, without threat of tomato tossing fans.

Wait until you play it in expert mode!

Hmm. I'm not really thinking of any. Could you be more specific? I would have expected - say - some Clash before Social D. What radio stations did you hear them on?

I'll check out the playlist when I get home. But I recall a lot more along the lines of ZZ Top, the Who, Deep Purple. There was a Sex Pistols tune. The few songs I didn't know I assumed were "hair" metal bands, like Poison - stuff I personally don't care for but is/was all over the radio.

Then my kid gets towards the end of the game and up comes Living Colour, Cult of Personality. Now that is a great song I have heard at least occasionally on the radio.

Man, inclusion of those 2 songs alone were enough to make me love the game.
