My second annual "it's hot" thread

It's hot.

It's been above 105 every day for weeks. I live in a city with no air-conditioning.

I sleep outside on a bed made of sticks to catch the breeze. I sleep in wet sheets. The fan no longer helps, the hot air it blows hurts me. I took five showers today. Sometimes, the first thing I do when I get home is take a shower, without even bothering to take my clothes off. I sleep almost continually, but never deeply. I drink a couple gallons of water daily, and am still always on the brink of dehydration. Cold drinks get tea-hot in minutes. I sweat from every part, constantly. Except when it's so hot the sweat evaporates immediately and leaves a while crust. I wake up with my hair wet, like I just showered, from the sweat. Every conversation I have with anyone is about the heat. I can only eat cold food, and even then I have to force it down. The air outside smells like things are burning, even when nothing is.

Only a few more weeks to go, and then it should rain. Havn't seen rain since October. Wish me luck!

Jesus. I feel for ya. That doesn't sound healthy.

Does the heat affect everyone the same? Has anyone figured out ways to be comfortable? Would salt tablets help?

Are you a native Cameroonian? Are you just living there for work?

Is there no way to get to a department store of some sort that would sell a window air conditioner unit? Or set up fans with bowls of ice in front of them?

I leave the white crust stains on baseball hats but I just sweat like a pig. (do pigs really sweat a lot?)

Take it easy.

I remember when my air conditioner broke in July here in Vegas. I can't imagine living like that permanently. We evacuated the house and stayed with my parents over the holiday weekend until the repair man could come fix it, but I had to be at the house when he got there, so I had to spend an afternoon in there.

I ran the shower and completely drenched the shirt I was wearing, but it wasn't nearly enough. I just sat there in a daze, like I'd been punched or something. It was really bad.
