As I posted in this thread we found out January 21 that we were pregnant.
Easter Friday I started having some pain in my belly. I woke up at 12:30 Saturday morning in huge pain. I took some Tylenol and it went away.
Saturday I felt okay, but at 12:30 am Sunday morning, the same thing, and nothing would make it go away. I was up all night and finally decided at 7:00 am that we should go to the hospital.
We got to the hospital at 8:00 and were seen by about 10…I think. They started an IV and waited for me to go to ultrasound. At about 11:30 I had an ultrasound and found the baby had no heartbeat. Of course, we were, and still are devastated. Everything was going fine. We waited around until the on call OB/GYN could see us and she gave us a couple of options. Not wanting to wait to miscarry on my own, we decided to have a D&C.
What should have been a simple procedure that lasted 20 minutes ended up taking 1.5 hours. I lost almost 3 litres of blood and was very sick. But, to top it all off, because of the shape of my uterus, they didn’t get ANY of the pregnancy tissue. My husband stayed with me in recovery for a little while then came home when I was stable enough to be admitted.
So, at about 11 pm Sunday, I was brought to my room. I stayed there until about 4 pm on Tuesday, when they shipped me off to the high risk unit of another hospital. Everything was going okay, until they drew some blood on me in the middle of the night. My hemoglobin was down to 62…should be around 120. So, I received 2 units of blood. By about 3 pm on Wednesday, I was feeling about 90% better than I had in weeks. I’m still not sure why I didn’t receive blood at the first hospital.
Thursday morning at 7:15 I was given some meds to try and start the process of delivering the pregnancy. It didn’t work. After discussing with my doctor what was the next and safest course of action, we decided that I would go home and let nature take it’s course.
The doctor’s aren’t sure how long the process will take. If after a month nothing has happened, they are likely going to do another D&C once my uterus is back to normal size.
I’ve been home over a week now and still no sign of anything happening. I am scheduled to go back to work on Monday.
Physically I’m feeling okay, now I just have to sort out the emotional.
