Re-imagine famous Star Wars lines with knowledge gained from the prequels

Let’s take famous lines from the first three Star Wars films and filter them through knowledge gained from the Prequels.

I’ll offer a few by way of better explaining what I mean:

“Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your Uncle wouldn’t allow it…your father’s lightsaber.”

“And when I say ‘wanted you to have it’, I’m kind of guessing there. After I chopped all his limbs off and left him to burn to death, I picked it up as I was leaving. He was kinda screaming ‘I hate you’ and technically he had no idea that you would survive childbirth, but I’m certain had I stuck around he would have said it.”

“Only a master of evil, Darth. And by ‘Darth’ I mean you, not Tyrannus, Sidious, Maul or Plagus. You know, I should really have been more clear there, sorry.”

“You, my friend, are all that’s left of their religion. Well, except for the Emperor. Wow, I can’t believe I forgot about my boss. Don’t tell him, OK?”

So there you go. Too geeky?

At the conclusion of the briefing before the attack on the Death Star:

“Good luck, and may the force be with you. At least those of you with high midichlorian counts. The rest of you are on your own.”

Was it generally known in the Empire, though, that the Emperor is a Jedi? I didn’t think it was.

When Han said “I’ve been all over the galaxy and I’ve never seen any force etc.” (Don’t remember the exact lines)

he should have said “I’ve been all over the galaxy, but have never been into a library, read a newspaper, or listened to a subspace radio broadcast. Sure I had Jedi playing cards as a kid, but …”

(At least Jabba knew what a Jedi was, even in Ep. 6)

Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?
Princess Leia: Not really. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Princess Leia: Just what my father told me about her
Luke: Tell me.
Princess Leia: He said she was… very beautiful. Kind, but sad.

“What I really need is a droid that understands the binary language of moisture vaporators. Do you speak Bocce? That question is rhetorical, of course, since I used to own you, and I should probably remember whether or not you speak Boccee.”

“When I met your father he was the best starfighter pilot in the galaxy…you know, for a ten-year old. And really it was all luck and the force that he managed to do anything right at all.”

What’s fun is to watch the originals and fill in R2’s bleeps as dialogue conveying that at least he remembers everything from the prequels.

C3PO (on Tatooine): “What makes you think there’s settlements over there?”
R2D2: Bleep-bleep-bloop (Translated: “Because we’ve been here before, dumbass!”)

The Emperor was never a Jedi. He could use the force, (which was not widely known) but he’d never been a member of the Jedi order, so Tarkin’s words are entirely correct, at least so far as Tarkin is aware.

R2 in virtually any scene: Bleep-bleep-bloop (Translated: “I sure wish I was still able to fly. That was really cool, and probably would have come in handy on several occasions.”)

Obi-Wan in Episode IV: “I don’t remember ever owning a droid. . . . Well, except for that one I flew around with in the Clone Wars. Which was an R2 unit and looked exactly like this one. But I didn’t technically own it per se, so you know, my previous statement still stands, kind of.”

Just to show that I can play along:

Old Ben: I don’t recall ever owning a 'droid. However, my best friend and student owned a 'droid, which looked exactly like this one and answered to the same name, and frequently accompanied us on our various adventures, and who saved our lives numerous times. But me personally? I never had a 'droid. That I can recall.

I thought Tarkin was just referring to the religious belief that there is such a thing as the force, not specifically belonging to the order of the Jedi. (I admit I used the term “Jedi” incorrectly in my previous post.)

So in other words, someone was saying Tarkin would have known that Vader wasn’t the only practitioner of his “sad religion,” since the Emperor also practices it. The “religion” in question must be belief in the Force. And I was saying probably Tarkin didn’t know that the Emperor uses the Force much less believes in it, meaning what Tarkin said in the first movie makes sense for Tarkin to say.

-FrL-

“When I first met your father, he was an annoying little shit; something that time didn’t remedy”

“You killed my father!”
“No…I AM your father.”
“Oh yeah. I forgot.”

Nope, Tarkin specifically mentions the Jedi:

“The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that’s left of their religion.”

Since I’m being nitpicky:

Han’s heard of the Jedi and the Force, he just doesn’t believe in it. FTR, the original line is:

“Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe that there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls my destiny. It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.”

Leia’s Hologram: General Kenobi. Years ago, you briefly met my father during a cameo that lasted five, maybe ten minutes of screen time, tops. Now, he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire…

I may be insane, but even before the prequels came out, I thought that Obi-Wan was sharing some kind of I-know-you joke with R2.

Aunt Beru: … he’s got too much of his father in him. Mainly the propensity to obnoxious whining.

Darth Vader: I’ve been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. Damn, you’ve really aged. Jeez, it’s only been what 19, 20 years? You look freakin ancient now!

We can scratch the Tarkin one, OK? :smack:

“Luuuuke. You will go to the Degobah system. There you will learn from Yoda - the Jedi Master who instructed Count Dooku, who instructed Qui-Gon Jinn, who instructed me.”

“That boy was our last hope.”
“No. There is another. Not really sure why you even said that, actually. You were, after all, standing right there when Padme gave birth, you held the two babies in your hands, and you personally delivered both of them to their new families.”

Darth Vader: He is here.
Governor Tarkin: Obi-Wan Kenobi? What makes you think so?
Darth Vader: A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master.
Governor Tarkin: Surely he must be dead by now.
Darth Vader: You think? It’s only been 20 years or so. He’d be in his mid-50s, at the oldest.
