Just a quick question-
What book does this line, "...the dark night of the soul..." come from? I think I really need to read this, and I think it's a philosophy book. Thanks. |

There is The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Spoul by Douglas Adams. But since you specified philosophy...well...I am not sure of Douglas passes muster.

There is a religious essay by that name, Dark Night of the Soul, by St. John of the Cross.
You can get more information about him at this site: http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintj23.htm (although I cannot explain why it includes a picture of JC shooting St. John with some sort of laser tag gun) The text is here: http://www.catholicfirst.com/TheFait...darknight1.htm I couldn't find a publication date on the site, but St. John lived from 1542 - 1591. |

From The Crack-Up by F. Scott Fitzgerald:
"In the real dark night of the soul it is always three o'clock in the morning." |
