This was a nice surprise; I wasn’t expecting Peggy to have as big a roll. Now we know for sure that Don knows about her “TB”. She’s moved up (no roomate & could come up with $110 cash on short notice). I looks like she’s taking Bobbi’s advice; she look more dressy and actually used Don’s first name in private. I hope Rachel will show up again.
I’m thinking that the baby we’ve been seeing at her mother’s is not Peggy’s, after all.
Her sister was pregnant in the shot of her at the hospital. I don’t remember seeing two toddlers at her mom’s (although I could be mistaken!). She may be uncomfortable around the child because it reminds her that she had a child, not that it is her child.
Am I off base here?
It’s a bit tricksie, isn’t it – the writers not making clear what happened with Peggy’s baby. If the toddler isn’t Peggy’s, then that scene last week with the priest and the egg is meaningless.
I never liked Rachel – I think it’s her thick eyebrows. Yeah, I’m shallow like that.
Favorite scenes this week were Peggy and Bobbi. Peggy needs a friend, but the boss’s latest mistress probably isn’t the best choice. Maybe that’s why Peggy kept her distance.
Pete and Trudy’s “meaning of life/is this all there is” conversation was kinda sad. They need to talk, and they’re getting closer to talking as equals. I didn’t like Pete’s stern “Come back here!” but Trudy gave it back to him. Good for her.
I loved that scene between Don and Peggy at the hospital. I wonder what kinds of things HE did that “they” wanted so that he could move forward. I think Peggy’s sister is raising her child. I could be wrong, but I think there was more than one kid in the bedroom when she went in to look last episode.
I think it would be a very, very good thing if Pete was unable to breed. Ugh! Oh wait, he already has…
Joan is going to be so bored as a married woman…
Or innuendo, rather than blatant…
There was only one child in the scene at Mass when her sister pushed teh toddler into her arms-- right?
Now I wish I had paid better attention to those scenes! How many kids?
I thought I remembered two kids in the bedroom at her sister’s place…
I thought there were three in the bedroom and one at mass Good thing there’s a marathon coming up.
Yeah- and I’d better take notes!
(I know I’m probably worng- but it’s fun to speculate!!)
There was a second kid in the bedroom but he was clearly older. He was in a regular bed and woke up and said “Hi aunt Peggy!” or something.
Confusing indeed.
It’s not meaningless; it’s even more meaningful.
She has the kid = message + something nice = “I know you have a kid, and here’s a nice little present for him.”
She gave up the kid = message + something mean = “I know you *had *a kid, and here’s a big old matzoh ball of symbolism that you can keep all to yourself and stare at so you’ll never forget it.”
Well, I dunno - hard boiled eggs don’t keep FOREVER
Think Weiner’s a King of the Hill fan?
Okay, just for S&G’s I went back over the pertinent episodes–there were three kids in the bedroom, two older ones in regular beds, one of whom said “Hi Aunt Peggy.” The other one was asleep. Then there was the blond toddler in a crib. At mass Peggy had two older boys sitting next to her, then Mom and Sis with toddler who got handed off to Peggy during Communion. Given Sis’ bitterness, and her gravid state after Peggy had already given birth, I’d say blond toddler boy is Sis’ and Peggy’s baby went off somewhere, probably into foster care because Peggy was non compos mentis. I think Sis is pissed because she has to deal with the fallout of pregnancy while Peggy just skates off scott free “as though nothing ever happened.” I’m also thinking that Peggy and Pete would not have a towhead kid since they’re both dark haired–toddler boy is Peggy’s nephew. Sis just keeps shoving the kid in her face trying to make her own up to her own baby.
Is it just me or is the lovely and perfect facade so carefully crafted during season one cracking apart to show a whole lot of ugliness beneath? Betty hates her son, her daughter is all kinds of inappropriate and is obviously acquiring a taste for the sauce, Don is a hollow shell of a man–there’s a lot going on in this show.
Excellent analysis SmartAleq!
Tricksie show indeed.
Wow, Pete made me really angry in this episode. What an arrogant, naive jerk.
Really? This is the one episode in which he didn’t seem annoying to me.
You’re probably right. I don’t want to think that the priest would be mean to Peggy though. Could there be a third meaning? “I don’t know who that kid belongs to and I don’t care, but he needs an egg, so here ya go.”
Even though his wife was clearly upset about their fertilization issue being “her fault” and he basically laughed in her face about it? He could have gone one of two ways there and I think he took the low road (even though he “fixed” it by taking her out to dinner. woo!)
Yeah, “fixed” it by ignoring the dinner she already had made–she was bringing the first course out when the fight broke out. What an ass! I cannot STAND him, I just want to punch his smug, annoying, clueless, bland little face in. He only cares about himself, he’s a totally self involved creep.
The new secretary is quite the tart, isn’t she? Wonder what her game is?
She’s a younger (& more provocative) version of Joan. Joan’s engaged which means she’s resigning (in the 1st episode she told Peggy her ulitmate goal was a house in the suburbs). Pete is utterly clueless. What kind of fertillity treatments were available in 1962? IVF is nearly 2 decades away and while artificial insemination was available Pete isn’t the problem.
