I have an idea. Let's let Jerry do his thing while we play somewhere else.

Geez, boards slow....not for me, it's fast, wait, now it's slow. It's fast again, wait, yup, still fast. Wup, now it's slow again. < (continuing conversation in several threads)
How bout we give Jerry a couple days to figure this stuff out while we play somewhere else?
Would it kill you people to stop posting for a few days?
I'm pretty sure it would make his job easier.
That is all.

Sure, if we all go "somewhere else", there will be no problems here. Which means, of course, that Jerry won't get a chance to fix them. Then, when we all come back, we'll have exactly the same problems we are all experiencing now.

Overall, I'd say the upgrade has gone extremely well. Yeah, there are a few performance issues right at the moment, but I expect it'll all shake out over the next several days...

This is the first time I've been able to post since May, so yes.

Yeah, what Plankton said.

If no one drives on the road, we don't find the potholes.

Really, I'm pretty sure Jerry's sleeping right now and it sounded in the sticky like he wanted to load the server after he's got the bugs worked out. Which he aint done yet. There was a list of things yet to do and it sounded like after that punch list was cleared it would be time to compare the new server to the old server to see what the difference would be. I'm fairly certain Jerry won't be able to let us give this thing an honest test drive until he's got the bugs he's aware of fixed first. Then he'll watch the board load up and fix the rest of the bugs. I think there's a certain order of events here that has to take place and beating the hamsters probably ain't helping. Ya know?

I certainly hope that Jerry is sleeping right now, after the weekend he's had

But I have to disagree about "waiting 'till the bugs are worked out". At this point, the known bugs are known, and can be worked out with or without our presence. The unknown bugs aren't going to show up until we make the ferrets sweat a bit.

(we did upgrade to ferrets, right?)

As I mentioned in the Pit thread, we seem to be running pretty stable and quick right now, so it's my guess that the instability earlier was Jerry actively working on the site.

He posted at 3:37 ET this morning, so he probably was not sleeping when this post was made. There's really no way to avoid the fact that we'll need some time to get the bugs worked out. The board might hang up a little less often if fewer people posted, but the issues would remain the same. They'll get taken care of in due time, and if you're not posting, that's the same as the board not working from your perspective.

Am I the only one wondering if maybe our Jerry took time out to donate to MDA for the *other* Jerry who pledged to work labor day weekend?

Is it a Jerry thing? Is there some secret rule that all Jerrys must forfeit their labor day weekends doing altruistic work?

If the new hamsters did not want to get the tiny turds beat out of them they should have signed up for some place less intense. This is the SDMB, they better get used to having the crap kicked out of them or else how are they going to handle the next series of "Treadmill"* threads?

*Note - My use of the term "Treadmill" refers to a type of topic that resembles the "Plane on a Treadmill" topic and volume of posts concerning it, not to the topic itself. Patent Pending.
