I was wondering how many of you would be going to the nationwide planned protests of Prop 8 on Saturday. I got this today for Join The Impact.
So, are you going? Is this going to be a huge outpouring of protesters or will it be more like National Smoke Out day where at 8:00 pm that night a whole bunch of people go “oh that was today?”
Yup, only I live in Florida so it’s for Amendment 2 here. According to the Facebook group there are around a couple hundred people who have RSVP’d already so I hope there’s a good turnout.
Just confirmed my husband is going to go to. It’s actually right down the street from where I work. And over 6,000 have confirmed on Facebook. This is going to be awesome.
I will be attending the Boston one. According to facebook there are about 5,000 people who say that they are attending. I have no idea how many actually will, but my husband and are are planning on being there.
Does anyone have any good ideas on slogans for signs?
I’m going to Birmingham and will probably go. I am pretty new to Facebook so I don’t know how to tell where people have confirmed that they are going. I did go to the Birmingham section of the main web page for it and there was something like 11 people replying to a thread and it made me sad.
I’m not totally sure but I’ve heard rumors that there are going to be some people gathering in Santa Fe, so I’m going to go see and join in if it’s happening.
People are protesting in front of city halls in Massachusetts? That seems kind of odd since Massachusetts and Connecticut are now the states to let same-sex couples marry. Wouldn’t federal courthouses make more sense?
ETA: I believe City Halls were selected because this is an impromptu grass-roots idea that started on a blog and it cuts out all of the debates about “where?”. Most cities/towns have a town hall, and most residents know where they’re located.
The Santa Cruz facebook site specifically calls out that they are not protesting the City or County government of Santa Cruz, who have been performing same-sex marriages on their grounds all summer.
This is the first I heard of this. I want to go. Would NYC (biggest city in the country) or Jersey City (my home) make more sense to go to? Their respective city halls are only an 8 minute PATH ride apart, so it’s all the same to me.
I still don’t get the rage. I fully support a gay civil union with all of the benefits of a marriage. Just don’t call it marriage. That is all we are asking for. Maybe I’m from the loony right but I still admit it does piss me off.
And from the Agnostics or Atheist… why do you give a crap anyway.
