What did you score, Christmas gifts-wise?

Apologies if this thread has already been done this year. I couldn't find it.

It was a slow year, mainly because my parents took a big hit financially, and so didn't give gifts. But they did give me fudge. Damned good fudge.

In fact, with only one exception, every gift I got was food-related.

I got a nice framed B&W photo of Gay Head light on Martha's Vineyard. Also,

A huge bag of chili powder strong enough to kill a moose
A jar of green chili powder
A garlic crusher
A vial of Brazilian green peppercorns
A spice mill
A brush made of space-age material (good for syrups I guess)
An America's Test Kitchen cookbook
A cookbook dealing with cooking at the molecular level

Bon appetit!

My brother got me the first season of House MD.

My mom got me a bunch of clothes, some of which are kind of lame. But I did get a really nice denim jacket that fits well and looks good.

I got clobber, consisting of jeans, shoes, a polo shirt and a jacket.

Also got a watch, smellies, six DVDs, a video capture card, some chocolate, £40 off me stepdad and an assortment of booze.

Added bonus 'not really a prezzie, but got it in my email on Christmas day' thing was an invite to try the Windows Boxee alpha.

Reposted from the most awesome gift thread:

A Hall & Oates CD (shut up, it was the best they had at WalMart). I paid for it myself and got my money back from the girl-child later.

A cat calendar. Picked out myself, my husband bought it for me and then sold it to the boy-child on December 24th so he’d have a gift to give me.

Dish towels from Grandma, as requested.

Wine from Mom, as requested.

Boots and pajamas from husband, as requested.

Red Lobster gift cards from brother, a total surprise. Unbeknownst to him, we really don’t care for Red Lobster, but I considered this a really thoughtful gift.

Not much. I seem to have been forgotten somewhat. A pullover that didn't really fit, some comics that my brother had bought for himself.

We got each other a puppy. That was the only gift we got each other this year...things are kind of tight.

I'm expecting that my mother probably got me something, though I don't know what or how much. Probably a gift card to Big & Tall, but I won't find out until this weekend, when I go up to visit.

I got some nice shirts and a pair of pants and, in a revival of an old tradition, my mother got me socks and underwear. Never fails to crack me up.

I also scored some new winter gloves.

And the big-ticket things (not that big, but still) ... a new monitor for my computer and one of those iPod docking dealios ... not a Bose, but still pretty nice.

And of course, I just had to buy Call of Duty: World at War for myself.

A new espresso maker.

Mine was a hand-me-down x2, and there was a broken valve that just wasn't worth fixing deep in its hellish bowels. Thus it took a whole container full of water to make just one shot, as most of the water poured steadily (and scaldingly) out the steaming wand. It was an unexpected and much appreciated gift from my parents.

I also received a set of garnet and silver jewelry from my in-laws, and a candle making set and judaica jewelry set from my SO.

My favorite gift this year was the first two volumes of the original Nausicaa manga by Hayao Miyazaki. The animated movie is one of my favorites and I had almost forgotten there was an original comic. So this gift was a complete delightful surprise.

From my dad & step-mom: A gorgeous new scarf and some lip gloss
From my 12-year-old niece: Lip balm (This was an inside joke; a couple of weeks ago she borrowed my lip balm and then announced that she'd had a sore throat all week. I told her to keep it and that Santa had better bring me a new one for Christmas. She wrapped a new one in a huge box and gave it to me on Christmas Eve.)
From my grandma: Gloves to match the scarf dad gave me, plus $10
From my mom: "The Zombie Survival Guide," slipper boots, and "Bananagrams" game
From my sister: Gift certificate to stay at a really cool, old hotel in the town where she lives. My favorite author (Sinclair Lewis) worked there when he was young. This was a joint gift for my husband and I. We've been wanting to stay there, and since my family draws names, she rigged it so her family would have both of us.
From my other grandma: A wall hanging
From my husband: We just set a dollar limit and picked out our own stuff. I picked out three sweaters (one cashmere), a shirt, and a pair of jeans.

We have Christmas with my husband's family tonight.

Best present was a digital camera from my dad. Strange that I wanted it, as until now I only used trad cameras with 35mm film, but what the hell, it's the twenty-first century! I am still learning how to work it. Three cheers for instant gratification.

I got money from my mom, which is par for the course.

I got Starbucks Cafe Verona coffee and black tights and paper for my printer and good bandaids from my sister and her husband, all of which I really needed.

Also, my friend is getting my favorite emerald cocktail ring repaired for me, which I really appreciate.

Good Christmas as far as I'm concerned.

My computer-illiterate mom gave me a 640GB external hard drive.

She kept asking what I needed for my computer, and I kept replying "Nothing!" (She's been too generous lately.)

I am stunned that she actually found something that I can use.

From my parents: an MP3 player.
From my sister: a Hamilton Beach Stay-or-Go Slow Cooker.
From my brother and SIL: an anime DVD set.
From my brother's MIL: a Celtic Woman CD and some nice, snuggly slipper socks.

I also got an unexpected gift from my grandma: a Cabbage Patch kid. She bought it for herself in 1985 and never took it out of the box. I'm so touched that she gave it to me.

This was an unusually lean Chrismukkah around these parts. From my mom, I got a TiVo to replace my pathetic cable company DVR. From my aunt, I got the annual check. Inflation this year drove her offering up to $150. From my cousin, in the annual family secret Santa thing, I got a $25 Simon Mall Visa, which I think I can only use in a store in a Simon Mall, which sucks, as I haven't sat foot in a mall in about five years and don't particularly wish to. Oh well.

I tell I lie - one of my mates sent my main WoW character a lifelike mechanical toad pet. I thought it was incredibly thoughtful of her as she knows I'm gunning for Shop Smart, Shop Pet.

I recieved an AC/DC T-Shirt from stepson. This would have seemed most inappropriate except that I have been getting back into guitar lately and have been learning how to play the opening riff from "Back in Black". He didn't know this. I am pretty much oblivious of Rock Bands which appeared after 1971.

I was delighted.

Things were pretty simple for me this year: Money ($450 total), gift cards (Borders & Macys) and clothes all around. And my brother got me a book containing every single Dilbert comic, which weighs about 20 pounds.

It was an unusually-good Christmas.

Went to see my friends, saw lots of kids, and...

My friends gave me a tookit! I promptly went out and added a power drill to it, then used it to assemble the casters onto the Ikea art-supplies cabinet I had bought earlier. I now have a decent set of tools for the first time in my life.

I also got a set of really nice dishes (heavy and squarish, in strong solid colours). I also got, not quite as a present, an electronic cutting machine. Now I can download vector artwork and make stencils of it! And from another friend I picked up a deal on a used SLR.

Every single episode of Blackadder!

And a Chia herb garden.

Dad shopped in a truck stop in Idaho this year, so I got huckleberry tea and cordials from him.

Boyfriend gave me a monitor that he was kind of going to give me anyway, but also massages.

For the first time in 47 years, I first thought that I had gotten anything. both my mother and sister are going through difficult times (not financial) and since we're busy with our baby, then we agreed to not exchange presents this year. My wife is tied up with the baby and we agreed to not worry about it this year.

My mom did send some presents for Beta-chan.

After thinking that this was the first time to never get anything, Beta-chan looked up with the biggest grin a 2 1/2 month-old can give and it became the best Christmas ever.

Can I come to your house for dinner tdn? You have so much cool stuff.

I got some very stylish workout clothes from my sister.
My mother got me a travelling Martini set.
My inlaws gave us $200 which we promptly spent.
My daughter is giving me a hair cut but I haven't made the appointment yet. (I know this sounds crazy but I tend to be unwilling to spend $ on a hair cut so I only cut my hair once or twice a year and the last haircut I got was a Super Cuts mistake that I've been waiting to fix)
Step daughters gave us some Jazz Icons DVDs and home made truffles.
Got a Chia Herb Garden too! I'm excited but not altogether confident that I won't kill the herbs. We'll see.
And homemade dried apples from my brother which are really addictive (and gone)

I almost forgot my two favorite gifts. Two bottles of Scotch. Macallan 12 and Macallan 15 from my very good friends. Scotch.....Good!

Last edited by velvetjones; 01-01-2009 at 04:24 PM. Reason: How could I forget the scotch?

We all had a good xmas, present-wise.
Big ticket-
from the 'rents: Adobe fireworks
from the hubby: Adobe dreamweaver upgrade
Budding website designer much?

Also, lots of crossword puzzle books (by request), gift cards to Amazon, REI and Title 9 - all spent, books, music, garden gloves, and a tight black sweater.

Hubby got a case of a wine that we've been looking for and I could only find in 1/2 bottles - that's really a joint prezzy. Motorcycle body armor and footpegs. Also, an iPod Nano and wireless wrist remote for skiing.

We also received some neat art from respective parents. And Cabot cheese - Yum!

My dog got a grunting warthog toy. She loves it.

I got a 1/2 hour massage from the kids. They all chipped in on it. Now I just have to call and make the appointment.

Husband gave me a photo to digital converter scanner thingy, that I've been playing with today. I have most of the family pictures that my parents have, so now I can do something good with them.
He also gave me the Perelandra Trilogy by C. S. Lewis, which replaces the ones I had years ago that fell apart.
And a set of DVDs of three movie musicals.
Not to mention the present that was under my pillow when I went to bed Christmas Eve. That's an outfit we won't be showing the kids.

The best present? Three different times in four days all the kids and grandkids were in the same place and we got to spend time with a lot of the rest of the family, too.

And along those lines, he got a couple of Wii games, so he's been spending significant amounts of time playing those with the daughters. It's been fun for him and them, and for me to see.

From my sister and brother-in-law: Jewellry box and jewellry from Morocco

My Parents: cash and a gigantic George Foreman grill (well, the cash was the real present but they willingly gave me their grill)

My Boyfriend: went all out since, according to him, I've put up with a lot this year

Luxury trip to Belize

Joby Gorillapod Tripod

2 different remote camera operators

Lens cleaning system for my camera

Maneaters of Kumaon

It was still unbelieavably generous. I'm kind of floored.

I got gifts for the first time in two years. And I got to unwrap them via webcam with my family. It was all very exciting. From my family I got
Makeup including a nice palatte from Sugar, my favorite brand
Fancy soaps just right for travelling
Chocolates
A nice outfit for work including a skirt, which is awesome because I can't buy them here. Being a size six makes me an enormous amazon who is unable to find clothes in China.
Cold weather stuff a bathrobe, slippers, and long undies.
A picture frame with a picture of me fresh home from Africa wearing geeky braids.
Fancy post-it notes
Books including an excellent book about learning Hanzi and a Trans-Siberian railway guidebook. Very sweet and supportive.
Robotic dog speakers from my cute little cousin, who also made me a lovely card and a paper wallet.

From my friends here in China I got some very nice hand creme, a copy of Tom and Jerry in Sichuan dialect from my Sichuan dialect tutor, a bunch of paper cranes from a student, a giant teddy bear and a pair of mittens that look like poodles (my boss thinks I'm eight years old.)

I love Christmas!

Mrs. Homie and I got for each other a 42" LCD 1080p HDTV. I got myself a Wii and Guitar Hero World Tour. She got me Super Mario Galaxy and some shirts. I got her an 8GB Zune (pink!).

Not a bad score at all, all things considered.

A Garlic bulb XMas ornament and $25 Sur la Table gift card
A Foodsaver marinating canister
A set of salt & pepper "piglets"
A waffle maker (given to manthous & I)
A pound of Coffee
A gift card to my favorite mexican restaurant
A "Cooking the Costco Way" cookbook (it was the thought that counted!)

and PJs, this beautiful wood-handled utility knife that I actually requested but never thought I'd get, cause you know—it's a weird request for a woman, a couple Blu-Ray DVDs, some hand-knitted socks (beautiful), and some other misc (awesome) stuff.

Man, I kinda raked it in this year!

A lovely Fourth Doctor scarf--I'm not quite sure which season it is.
An equally lovely hat. Let's just say that if a man walks down the street in this hat, people know he's not afraid of anything.

It was a rather geeky christmas, yes.

My darling got me a Kitchenaid stand mixer. Wonder what's on her devious mind.

Let's see. Various sausage/cheese/cakes/misc foods.

Couple of T-shirts that will come out when it's time to go riding again.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. Will update if I remember anything interesting
