What was your last meal of 2008? At a vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Seattle, I had:
[ul]
[li]1 bottle of cabernet (well, my wife helped me drink it)[/li][li]mushroom-and-leek soup[/li][li]antipasti platter (tyrosalata, muhumara, olives, manchego sheep’s-milk cheese, roasted garlic, chickpea salad, grilled flatbread)[/li][li]cauliflower crepe with lentils, parsnip cream, apple balsamic, parmesan tuille[/li][li]salted-caramel mascarpone cheesecake[/li][/ul]
…Got home just in time to see fireworks from our window. A happy new year indeed.
A frozen pepperoni pizza doctored up wwith onions, green peppers and extra cheese. California Pizza Kitchens was the brand.
Washed it down with a couple Heinikens.
My last meal of 2008: A piece of the lasagna that I made for dinner on Christmas Eve. It was three inches thick and smothered in sauce and cheese. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
My first meal of 2009: A few pieces of the icing-drizzled bread that I baked for Christmas morning. Pair that up with some orange juice and a cup of hot tea and you’ve got a great breakfast.
Leftover Chinese takeaway from Wednesday night, ah, the world of deep-fried, battered delights. Dry sparkling wine throughout the evening with potato chips, another long-time favourite.
First meal of 2009: tea with skim milk, one organic apple. See where my resolutions are? But at 11 a.m. I had a mini-lunch of turkey soup (still caloric likely, if my stock had fat in it, but loaded with celery and onions) and a kiwi.
Two Hebrew National hot dogs with catsup, mustard and sweet pickle relish, and a slice of prime rib a couple of hours later, which was leftover from Christmas.
New Year’s Eve we brought home pasta—Fettucini Alfredo with pesto and mushrooms/olives/chicken, lasagne and spaghetti with meatballs/marinara. Garlic breadsticks and gelato. We then went to see BB King, stayed up 'way too late and are making breakfast now. Cheese scrambled eggs, wheat toast, ham, coffee and orange rolls–like cinnamon rolls, but orange!
For various reasons beyond my control, we missed out on having any kind of Christmas dinner, so the last meal of 2008 was shrimp cocktail, a New York Strip roast, Yorkshire pudding, scalloped oysters, creamed spinach, and pear upside-down gingerbread w/ whipped cream.
