I’m sure this has been discussed before, but three threads in the last week have been making me think about it. We’ve heard about the death of a longtime poster, about the death of a longtime poster’s husband, and about life-threatening conditions of two senior government officials, all under “Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share.” I don’t think any of these count as pointless, and even “mundane” has connotations I’d prefer not to be attached to someone’s talking about the death of a loved one.
I wonder whether there could be a more appropriate name for this forum–“Thanks for Sharing,” perhaps, or something even less snarky?
I’m not up in arms about this, but I wonder whether it’d be an easy and accepted change to make, given some of the heartwrenching stuff that’s shared there.
Seconded. I sometimes cringe when I see very serious and personal threads in a forum under that title. I think MPSIMS would be fine if all that got posted there were fluffy “I GOT A KITTY!” threads, but it’s really a General forum, a catch-all, and that means there are quite a few threads posted with some frequency that really don’t jibe with the somewhat breezy air of the forum title.
This has definitely been discussed before, and I’m not opposed to it. The problem is finding a better name. A little while after I was made a mod last year I brought up the idea in mod emails and suggested dropping the MP, so it was just “Stuff I Must Share.” [I’m sure Dale Carnegie would have loved that move.] If people rally around any one name we might consider it.
