Favorite Big Band Music -- with audio

The thread Best Beats in Music – with audio has come to a fork in the road. Some of the Big Band music on YouTube isn’t so much noted for its beat, groove, or rhythmic concept as it is for just wailing.

So here’s another whack at getting links to musical performances in the Big Band category.

Here are some examples to get your thoughts whirling. As long as it’s either a large group of musicians, or songs and tunes made famous by Big Bands, or something you get reminded of by way of a previous entry, post away.

ROB MCCONNELL & THE BOSS BRASS 1980 TV GROOVIN’ HIGH

Asheville Jazz Orchestra- Basie Straight Ahead*

Stan Kenton And His Orchestra - Intermission Riff (1946)*

Woody Herman Orchestra - Four Brothers

Cherokee - GRP All star Big Band

If your entry is a fine example of a Best Beat or a Super Groove, the other thread above needs some more help, too!

One of my faves, Glenn Miller’s version of Song of the Volga Boatmen. How can you not love a big band tune with a fugue in the middle?

Jersey Bounce - Hastings College Jazz Ensemble

Count Basie-shiny stockings

The Mooche - Duke Ellington and his Orchestra

Stompin’ at the Savoy - Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra

The best quality thing I could locate by Gerald Wilson (a great bandleader/composer worth getting to know) is Kenny Burrell - Theme From Monterey (music starts at 2:19).

I would have thought there were at least a few Big Band enthusiasts here.

Oh, well…
