FF Playoff Challenge

Come one, come all to join the SDMB Playoff Challenge. Here’s how it works:

In other words, like a salary cap league there is no draft and we can have duplicate players, but unlike a salary cap league you don’t have the headache of a salary cap. Just pick whomever you want with no constraints. If your guys win their games, bonus points for you!

First you have to create your Playoff Challenge ID, which is different from a normal nfl.com fantasy football ID.

Once you create your ID, you’ll be asked for an Entry name, which is basically the same as your team name. For example, I’m user “EllisDee37”, entry “New York Fanboys”.

Finally, you have to join our private league.

League: Dopers
Password: Our leader’s first name, all lower case. PM me if you need more than that.

If the above league link doesn’t help, go to the leagues page and search for Dopers in the search box on the right.

Good luck all. The more the merrier.

I’m in. Same as my doper name.

Not sure if there is just heavy traffic or the problem is at my end - but that was painful navigating their web site.

Yeah, it’s brutal. It took me three tries and forever to get in and create the private league. I’m not a fan of any part of nfl.com. That frustrating part is that it used to be awesome before they redesigned it.

Hopefully the links from the OP make it a little easier for everyone.

I’m in. I had to fight myself from being too much of a homer.

Hmmm, with only 3 of us, I just may have a shot at winning.

Made an entry in dopers 1; were we supposed to also make one for dopers 2?

Thanks for setting this up.

In as the fightin’ weasels. Right now I’m trying to decide whether to diversify teams to ensure some multipliers, or if I should lean heavily on teams I think will win in order to go completely boom or bust.

That was already there when I first created the group and I don’t recognize the entry name from any of the doper FF leagues. I think it’s unrelated to the SDMB; possibly a drug reference.

Yeah, exactly.

One consideration to make is with the double positions. (RB and WR) One idea I had is to pick one each from opposing teams this weekend (eg: Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson) so that you’re guaranteed to get one double scores the next week. Of course that also means one is guaranteed not to get double scores, so that may or may not be smart.

Another consideration is that you’re basically looking at three consecutive games. Four isn’t reasonable. So after wildcard weekend it could conceivably be the smart play to dump some of your players that advanced. Like let’s say you think Minny will get to the Superbowl and that Peterson will far outproduce everyone else. Also imagine both your wildcard RBs advanced. It would be better to bench one of those wildcard RBs in favor of Peterson even though they’d be scoring double because otherwise Peterson won’t be able to get up to triple points by Superbowl time.

It’s tough, and I go back and forth. I tell you, though, I wish I was Hamlet in that I don’t think going all Packer would be the worst thing in the world. I’d probably pick all Packers except maybe one RB from another team and just embrace the homerism simply because with Green Bay you could legitimately justify it.

Simple yet interesting contest, I’m in.

Just joined. Phoenix Redbirds.

Trying to get signed up but the NFL website is fuxxors.

I’m in as ChargerTownRavensFan, and i’m wishing right now that i had picked Ray Rice.

Tell me about it. I had Rice from Week 1 in both my regular fantasy league and the salary cap league. But I didn’t grab him in this league becuase he has been splitting carries with McGahee and a feared the Ravens might be 1 and out (although I picked them to win).

I’m a huge Ravens fan BTW.

Well, apparently you can sign up after the start of the contest. I’m in but too late for any Week 1 games. Oh well, still will be fun.

Well, as it turned out, i DID pick Ray Rice, but had just forgotten. I was jumping back and forth so much between different RBs that i forgot which one i chose.

Now i just hope the Ravens have what it takes to overcome the Indianapolis Professional Football Team next week.

Well, dalej42 has put himself in a pretty good position. He doesn’t have the highest score right now, but every single one of his players was on a winning team this week, so they will all be able to get him double points next week.

Going in I thought they would edge the Pats then lose to the ‘Home’ team the following week. After the beatdown they put on the Pats - I think they may have a good chance against the ‘Home’ team.

What a disaster. I have ONE GUY moving on, Jason Witten. Everyone else was eliminated.

And aside from Rodgers and Benson, they didn’t even have a good day on their way to elimination.

Well, I am doing terribly. Very few points, and very few keepers. I bet hard on the Packers, and picked the wrong Packers.
