Brian May's latest project

Not a new album, or a treatise on cosmic dust, but a book of restored 3-D viewcards. Apparently Brian has been collecting them for years, and he got together with a photo historian to restore the work of a stereo photographer from the 1850s.

NYT article: A Village Preserved, Green and All: Brian May’s Photographic Recovery

Quote:
“Depending on where we were, I always knew the dealers and collectors to go see,” recalled Mr. May, who has been obsessed with stereo pictures for most of his life. “And it was nice because I was interacting in a world that was completely divorced from the rock world. None of these guys thought of me as anything other than an enthusiast, unless one of their kids would see me and say, ‘Do you know who that is? He’s in Queen!’ ”
Web page for the book: A Village Lost And Found

Being a collector of viewcards myself, I must say that this is really cool!

He had a great interview on "Fresh Air" yesterday. The Queen stuff was fun, but the best part was when they were discussing his thesis for his PhD in Astrophysics that he earned (on the side).

I heard him on 'Q' last week and found him to be very interesting. I want to see the book since I have a Holmes Stereoscope and numerous cards for it...

I ordered a copy of the book a few days ago and am really looking forward to reading/seeing it. Brian May is an interesting fellow, definitely fits the definition of a renaissance man.
