I read a poll that said they are within poll error. Even in that list they can cherry pick the one that has them 3 points apart.
Her claim to fame is marrying a wrestling mogul. Wrestlers of course can make a few bucks at the cost of their lives, so many die young. They have in a sense gotten rich off young people who have given their lives to steroids and human growth serum.

I've been doing door to doors and phone banking for Blumenthal's campaign, and here are some of the reasons I've heard for McMahon.

I like wrestling.
She's run a successful business.
Obama is ruining the country.
We need new leaders in Congress.
Blumenthal is a liar.

Nope. But that was just one person, it isn't a regular answer. I've actually had more people say hating wresting is why they won't vote for her, which is just as dumb a reason. Not WWE the company, anything like that. I think they vote against her TV character.

Well, we all do that, in almost every election. What else ya gonna do? Can't actually meet all the candidates, and few of us have the time or inclination to seriously study them.

No, I think they are referring to when Linda used to be on the WWF shows. She once kicked Vince in the crotch during a Wrestlemania.

Blumenthal was a highly popular AG in the state for almost 20 years, and was a prohibitive favorite as soon as he announced for the race. He was maintaining a lead of 30+ points against all potential Republican opponents in early polling. Then, the New York Times Vietnam story came out, and the downward spiral started. Even shortly after he was still polling fairly well, but it may have just taken the numbers a bit to catch up; he finally stabilized at about a 5-10 point lead. He's still a pretty big favorite to win - FiveThirtyEight has him at a 92% chance to take the election as of their most recent update to the Senate forecasts.

Another big factor is that McMahon has been throwing money around at a near-record pace: for all that you hear about Whitman in CA, McMahon has spent something like $18 million on the campaign as of 6/30 and I'm sure another several million since, between the hard-fought primary and the general. You can't change the channel without seeing either Linda with a lunch pail telling us how she wants to get people back to work, or seeing an ad bashing "Dick Blumenthal" in one way or another. Personally, I'd like to go back to the ad that one of her primary competitors was showing that was just her kicking Vince in the crotch over and over again, but I'm all for cheap thrills like that.

And, yeah, there's both the backlash against Obama and the "I like wrestling!" factors going on, too. I'm not a huge fan of Blumenthal, either, but I look forward to coloring in his little circle in one of the few races I've ever voted in that wasn't a foregone conclusion.

Connecticutians, if you must, but really, you don't need to.

Linda McMahon has been throwing TONS of money into political ads. Most of them are along the lines of 'Washington is killing jobs with all their Liberal laws. I'm going to go in there and change things.' I've only seen one ad form Blumey, and I believe it was during the primary. Maybe I'm just watching the wrong channels, but even ads that offer no specifics about what the candidate wants to do will have an impact on the campaign.

On a somewhat related note, Linda seems like the republican equivalent of Ned Lamont. Both are absurdly rich. Both seem to have decided, 'I have all the money, now I'm going for power.'


gonzomax, I keep insisting that we call ourselves 'Connecticats', but no else seems to agree, so we have to go with the vastly inferior 'nutmeggers'.

No discussion about her statements about minimum wage today? First, she doesn't know how much it is. Second, she thinks it's worth looking into lowering it.

Whether she is tied or not, that she is even in the race is sad and embarrassing. I get daily glurge mail from her at home. Enough already. I'm not voting for her, leave me alone.

I couldn't believe she won the primary. Blumenthal has done so much for the state as AG, I can't believe he's being brought down by this piece of work.

ETA: We're nutmeggers, as we're the nutmeg state. Or Connecticutters, but I prefer nutmeggers. I actually really, really like nutmeggers!

Blumenthal is one of the recent group who've been discovered lying about their military service.

This doesn't explain how McMahon got through the primary, but when you look at some of the other fruitcakes who won Republican primaries, I'm not sure any further explanation is necessary.

Just when you thought the long nightmare was over, McMahon has said she is thinking about taking on Lieberman in 2 years. Here we go again. Another 50 million on a political campaign. She must want it bad.
