"South American Getaway" -- Why so popular?

Roughly a year ago I added South American Getaway - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid soundtrack to my YouTube Favorites. At that time there were maybe two more versions of it there.

Just lately I was playing my favorite and saw over ten newer versions of it, including South American Getaway B. Bacharach 12 cellos da filarmónica de Berlim.wmv and South American Getaway - Solo Piano

What’s going on? Why the sudden surge in popularity of something this old?

I’m catching myself humming it! So’s my wife! What gives?

Bumped for the Weekend Crowd. Friday’s folks contributed 64 views but it would appear the “popularity” of this piece is a figment of my imagination.

I thought this was going to be about vacations to Brazil and such. Why do you say it’s gotten a surge of popularity? I’ve never heard it and listening to 10 seconds of it made me want to turn it off. So as to why there’s more versions on YouTube now, I couldn’t say.

It’s the YouTube popularity that I refer to. The cello group and solo piano versions really surprised me and the only other version I saw a year ago, other than the movie excerpt, was a vocal group imitating the soundtrack in a concert setting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9eF9FkpJWA to be precise. Rather pitiful!

I would suspect that only fans of the movie would recognize the music and the vocalese rendition of it. So why YouTube’s bump in number of versions?

In any case, thanks for the reply!
