Doing some last minute decision making between Brown and Whitman. What fiscal powers does the governor have? Schwarzenegger put the California state workers on furlough; does the governor have the power to unilaterally fire anyone? How much influence do they have on budgetary concerns?

Fire anyone no. There are greavance procedures. He can eliminate positions or job classifications.

And on the budget he can use the blue pencil.
