Songs about stalking

Inspired by this poll about The Police’s Every Breath You Take.

Bob Marley’s Waiting in Vain comes to my mind.

There’s a snow patrol one - “Spitting Games”

Until You Come Back to Me by Stevie Wonder, sung by Aretha Franklin:

Though you don’t call anymore
I sit and wait in vain
I guess I’ll rap on your door
Tap on your windowpane
**
Why did you have to decide.
You had to set me free.
I’m gonna swallow my pride
Gonna beg ya to please see me

Los Abandoned “Stalk U
Goldfinger “Stalker

Allan Clarke’s “Shadow in the Street.”

Every step you take
Every move you make…

Happy Together” by the Turtles could definitely be interpreted as a stalker singing about his (unrequited) love.

I know you’ve deceived me, now here’s a surprise
I know that you have 'cause there’s magic in my eyes

I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
Oh yeah

  • The Who

“I Got My Mind Set On You,” in which the singer describes (excitedly) the time, effort, and money needed to effect his plan to kidnap and imprison the object of his affection.

Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me”

Seriously, if that had been released by Sting, people would be up in arms.

The Night Has a Thousand Eyes by Benjamin Weisman, Dorothy Wayne and Marilynn Garrett, sung by Bobby Vee

'Cause the night has a thousand eyes
And a thousand eyes can’t help but see
if you are true to me
So remember when you tell those little white lies
That the night has a thousand eyes

Translation: I’m following you around watching you all the time.

**Barenaked Ladies **- Straw Hat & Old Dirty Hankis told from the point of a view of a stalker. The song is inspired by a real life stalker of Anne Murray and the song contains references/lyrics to some of her songs:

You cried a tear, I wiped it dry
I put you up upon a pedestal so high
If you should waver, if you should sway
I’d catch you, spread my tiny wings and fly away
You signed your picture with an O and X
I bet you don’t write “love” each time you sign your checks

.
.
.
You say you love me, is that the truth?
Although they’ve heard the songs, my friends want living proof
I know your address, I ring the bell
I bring you flowers and a .22 with shells

“Behind the Wall of Sleep” by the Smithereens sure sound stalkerish.

Oh, and Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold” is about a stalker who’s actually gotten hold of his ex and is going to kill her!

“Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
Ill be watching you”

Sting

Geez. I’ve liked that song forever, and never really paid attention in detail to the lyrics. Weird.

Of course John Lennon penned this catchy little ditty with the Beatles.

Run for Your Life.

You didn’t notice that the OP mentioned this song?

How about Sugarland’s Stuck Like Glue. I have to admit, I really can’t stand the song and haven’t really picked through the lyrics but the video was posted here a week or two ago and it seemed pretty stalkerish for such an upbeat song.

Sarah McLachlan, “Possession”

Blondie, “One Way or Another”

What, you expect people to read the whole entire first sentence of an OP before responding? Silly.

Louis XIV has a song called Stalker. The lyrical content is pretty predictable.

Maybe you want to draw a line between peeping toms and stalkers, but if not, then the Killers’ Mr. Brightside qualifies too.
