Songs to Stalk By

There are many love songs that, rather than being romantic, simply seem creepy. In fact, there are so many that Sting found that his song “Every Breath You Take”, which really is about a stalker, was mistaken for a love song. So let’s make a list of songs that would be appropriate for a Songs to Stalk By compilation CD. Ones that were meant to be creepy (such as “Every Breath You Take”) are okay, but best of all are the ones that were serious.

This thread was inspired by this one, in which Protesilaus mentioned The Jayhawks’ “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me”.

There was a popular song three or four years ago that contained a line in which the narrator tells the object of his affection that he won’t leave her alone even if she calls the cops, but I can’t recall the title or anything else about it. Does anyone know the song I mean?

I don’t know that one, but I do know another one. Overload, it’s from “Dirty Dancing,” it plays when Baby and Johnny are going out in the rain to practice for the big dance. Until I got the soundtrack and actually listened to a few lyrics, I didn’t really think of it as a stalker song, but now I do. Pretty devious, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me”

A song made even creepier by that Coke commercial where the woman is always peeping through the bathroom window of the guy in the apartment across the way. ::shudder::

The very thing that made me think of it.

You won’t see me by the Beatles

Not sure if it’s the title, but Etheridge has one 'I wanna come over" that says “To Hell with the consequence” that sounds like a restraining order was in force…

“Possession” by Sarah McLachlan, of course.

Turning Japanese by The Vapors

I always thought that line refered to the social consequences of being homosexual, but I guess you could go either way with it.

One Way or Another by Blondie

Well, No One Else by Weezer is about a serious control freak. There’s Grievances by Daniel Johnston (covered by Kathy McCarty). But the best unintentional stalker song has to be On the Street Where You Live from the soundtrack for My Fair Lady.

I thought it was about the consequences on cheating on the legitimate partner.

“Two steps behind” Def Leppard.

“Watch out for me” by loverboy had some slightly weird messages in it if I recall.

Obsession by Animotion

“I’m Gonna Get Close To You” by Queensryche. Written by a woman, and not a band member, but is definitely a stalking song and makes no bones about it, for example this verse:

“You fumble for your keys,
I’m six or seven steps behind you,
I’m so close to you.
Are you terrified of me?
What do I know about you?
How did I find out?”

Creeepyyy…
They did a video for it where the singer appears to be following a woman around but the end reveals that she is a vampire and was stalking him. Uh huh, yeah.

“O’ the night has a thousand eyes”

I don’t know the name of the song, as I only heard it a couple of times shopping. I believe the lyrics were:

“If you ever leave me
Will you take me with you
If you’re ever lonely
I wanna be lonely too”

The meaning of the first two lines completely escapes me. What’s the point of leaving someone if you’re going to take him/her along?

What? Loverboy has a song other than “Workin’ for the Weekend”?

For anyone who doesn’t know, this song is actually about a stalker.
