There is a live blog as well as live camera action every day the court is in session at www.wftv.com.
So far, the prosecution has established that Casey tells one lie after another in her efforts to cover up what they claim is a homicide. Casey blames her father for insisting the “accidental death” be covered up and her suffering at his hands as her reason for having no emotions in the matter. From following the blog, it’s running about 90% she did it, 5% she’s innocent and 5% don’t know.
I’m just curious, is anyone else following this case?
Yes. I live in the area, though (less than a mile from some of the places discussed), and actually know one of the people who testified. When I visit my parents I drive by the jail where she has been held for the last however many years. Many people I know who swore they wouldn’t watch it have been sucked in, and we listen to it on headphones while we work and follow court-goers on twitter. Hope it doesn’t last too long! And yes–I believe 100% that she is guilty.
Not “following” but catching parts of it and wondering about some things. Mostly wondering why she did it, or if it was accidental, why she covered it up. Also wondering why the defense is going with the “Caylee drowned and Casey’s dad helped her cover it up” story. That makes no sense at all.
It’s a silly theory IMO. If her father was so interested in helping her cover up the accident as she claims, to prevent her from getting charged with child neglect, how is it that he’s willing to testify against her in a murder trial where the stakes are much higher?
The experts are saying she will have to testify otherwise much of what her attorney said in his opening statement will not be presented to the jury.
I’ve been following bits and pieces from the articles posted to CNN and I just can’t figure out why the defense went with accidental drowning when the body was found with duct tape on her mouth. Why on earth would you bother to duct tape the mouth of an already deceased person? It makes absolutely no sense.
Wouldn’t an autopsy make it pretty damn clear whether or not the baby drowned? Lungs full of water = drowning, lungs full of air = suffocation. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be an open-and-shut case if this is the only defense? Just trot out the ME, done and done, yeah?
The remains were skeletal–I don’t think any organs were left by the time they found her, although there was some hair still left on her skull, some of it stuck to the duct tape.
It really is an asinine defense. I feel like the whole trial is a waste of tax money, though with the sensational aspect of it (selling advertising and magazines and such, it probably puts more money into the economy than it wastes.
But it’s just so damn laughably stupid. Does the defense think the jury is made up of total idiots?
One segment I watched had the defense attorney trying to get Casey’s dad to say that there was a piece of duct tape on a round gas can in the trunk of a car. I couldn’t figure out why that was important. Is it because the defense is saying that the duct tape on Caylee’s body could have fallen off a gas can?
And why the big deal about Casey getting her dad’s gas cans out of a car trunk? There was questioning about Casey’s dad asking about gas cans and Casey saying “I’ll get your fucking gas cans”.
Duct tape: The defense is just trying to make a tenuous connection to the tape around the mouth: tape on can, tape on mouth, see?
Gas cans: The father wanted to check the trunk for the missing gas cans. She wouldn’t let him. She denied taking them and then when he was about to check for himself she popped the trunk and got them. It’s believed the body was also in the trunk and that’s why she wouldn’t let him check for himself.
I’m wondering how the Defense will get around the fact that Casey let her daughter spend so much time alone with George. What mother would allow their little girl to be around a man that had sexually molested them as a child. This Defense story is pure fabrication. I feel so sorry for George that he is having to deal with this. He and Cindy have been absolutely distraught over losing their granddaughter and then have to listen to this garbage from their daughter must be devastating.
I am wondering if they ever offered her manslaughter to plead out and avoid the trial. My theory is that she was giving the baby chloroform to have her sleep while she went out and overdosed her by mistake. She panicked and tried to make it look like a kidnapping. Is there a way to know if she was offered manslaughter?
My understanding is that once they found the body, all offers were off the table.
Cindy testified today, and totally lost it when listening to the 911 tapes regarding Caylee being missing. She had to be helped from the stand to compose herself. Casey sat there like a stone faced robot during this.
I heard that theory suggested elsewhere, and I can see that being the case, but if she wanted to make it look like a kidnapping, why did she wait so long to report her missing? And apparently only at the insistence of her parents? The whole thing is just bizarre.
I think Casey killed her child because she considered her to be a burden. She preferred going out partying with her friends over being a mother. But it still doesn’t explain the long wait to report that she was missing, and the lies about leaving her with the non-existent nanny or friends.
Instead of going out to hot body contests in bars, she should have watched a few more episodes of Law & Order or CSI.
Not watching. But just curious: If the remains were only skeletal, how could they tell that there was duct tape over her mouth? I can see why the defense would try to make the point that there was duct tape in the trunk already, for instance, if they are going to argue that she got the tape on her after death, while being transported in the trunk.
