"I had to throw it back because it was starting to stink"<--from what?
My wife and I have been quoting this line for at least a decade, and this evening we realized we no longer remember what the quotation is from!
We don't know what the "it" referring to is (presumably a fish or something else from the ocean?). We're almost certain the line was originally spoken in a stereotyped mexican accent, (but not completely certain), and we're almost certain that it was a cartoon--I think a fairly contemporary (for a decade ago) cartoon. Any ideas? |

We've now remembered that the line begins with the speaker saying: "I once made a hat out of a stick and ________" We don't remember what goes in the blank. The speaker then continues, "But I had to throw it back because it was starting to stink" or something like that.

A lobster and a stick. I think it's from an SNL sketch with Tim Meadows (Capt. Jim?) and Adam Sandler where they are stranded on a desert isle. I'm pretty sure the line was Sandler's done in his patented simpleton voice.

I Googled it and Sandler's character was named Pedro so he was probably trying for a Mexican accent.

Which sounds a lot like his little kid voice.
