athelas is a habitual plagiarizing git

It was mid-February 2010 and athelas started a thread called: People’s mate preferences are racist. Do we care? It was a cynically flawed, but detailed argument for the government to regulate romances by race (because the US government also regulates some businesses to be racially diverse). Of course it provided fodder for debate.

Fast forward to April. I run into a blog post that is an exact copy of athelas’s OP.. I bring it up in the zombie thread, taunt him a bit… no response. I drift back to forgetting athelas exists.

Fast forward to today. I open up the Straus-Kahn case falling apart. Duke lacrosse, etc.? thread and start reading. I encounter this post:

[

](Steve Sailer: iSteve: DSK accuser not proving credible)and this post

[

](http://www.halfsigma.com/2011/06/half-sigma-was-right-about-dominique-strauss-kahn.html)Both are mere cut & paste jobs. However by now (with two random comments stolen from various racist blogs) athelas gets a few bites from Marley23, DSeid, and outlierrn. To which athelas replies:

[

](http://www.halfsigma.com/2011/07/immigration-and-the-dsk-case.html)To which triggers more calm (and utterly confused) responses from Marley23, wmfellows, and clairobscur. Little does anyone know that they are not communicating with a human, but a robot. Someone who doesn’t engages in debate, responds to criticism, nor forms their own opinions; but a simple mailman, who takes/copies the arguments of others and delivers/pastes them elsewhere. Nary a single attribution and always disguised as his own informed comments.

He’s probably been doing this for years. I’m not going to go through his entire history but if theirs anyone else who wants to check his other threads it’s simple. Just copy some text from any OP and paste it into google search. Most likely you’ll find that it’s been plagiarized word-for-word (there I found another one).

While I suppose it’s possible that he’s the author of each of those blogs, yikes. It does look like plagiarism occurred. If that’s the case, athelas, you should be ashamed of yourself.

It’s not always a clean “cut & paste” job (like the first example/OP and the two following quotes); however, sometimes he doesn’t even make an effort.

He’s a plagiarist, and you’re a troll. You make a great pair.

Perhaps I was out of line?

I thought that he was an Orc…

Good detective work. Maybe you could have just forwarded the info to the mods, but this is okay too. Looks like it warrants an immediate cease and desist warning.

I feel like I’m Nancy Drew in the story of the lazy internet polemicist.

Oh please, dont do that to me. I’ll give you anything.

Perhaps athelas is Chinese?

Apologies. I just couldn’t resist.

I think a public reveal is appropriate for plagiarists. And I can’t imagine how the bottom line could be anything short of a ban.

You know what I think about athelas? I think he’s a habitual plagiarizing git. And you can quote me on that.

Guys, it’s not that clever. And it’s not funny after the first time or two.

Well, I found the second one a bit funny cuz he stole the words AND the joke. But it quickly grew stale…

trying not to pull the same joke

whew, I did it

All kidding aside (for the moment…) I do remember a trend being reported in ATMB a long time ago about messages from SDMB’s being plagiarized and posted on other blogs. Are you sure it wasn’t the other way around?

I checked a couple; the athelas posts here show later dates than the various authors’ blog entries elsewhere.

I can’t imagine a ban is even needed: wouldn’t anyone just slink away?
