This stems out of the thread found here that deals with why a WallyM7 thread was removed.
The short answer from above is that it was lifted from another person and said person took umbrage on its lifting.
No argument there- plagiarism blows.
But it definitely has this poster thinking, ‘What the hell?’. Was all his anecdotes and funny stories lifted from others? Was any of what he said true? Why the reverence for this guy if all he ever said was bullshit?
People get jeered and ridiculed no end for doing the things he’s been accused of doing, so why isn’t that shown for him instead of the exaltation?
I know this is a touchy subject, and probably a thing most would assume not arise, but the question begs to be asked, ‘Was Wally a fraud?’

Routinely, the mods close threads where all that’s going on w/the OP is to dis/discuss some one not able to post here. Why in the world would you assume this case would be any different?
I personally believe that he could not have plagiarized most of his story (c’mon, the guy has posted over 3000 times) and if he did a few times, so what? Nobody is perfect, I (partially)plagiarized a few times when working on School and college essays. I’m not proud of it but it doesn’t mean all my works were plagiarized. Hello no! My best works were always my own. The same can (and probably is) true about wally.
PS: I wouldn’t have asked if I were you. People here are very touchy about this subject (with reason) and most of them will either find it inappropriate to “bash” a dead person, say that this serves no purpose and that it better stay buried or get very emotional and start flaming you.
Actually, I didn’t. All I did is repeat and alegation and ask for its confirmation or denial, that’s about it.
To this poster, no. If I learned that all his stuff was either lifted or made up, than I’d be pissed- he flat out misled people in his posts.
Like I said, other posters who have done that have been ridiculed and mocked beyond belief, and rightly so, so why is this poster given a pass on it? Because it was funny and made people laugh?
The other stuff made people laugh and have fun, but it was roundly criticized because it was BS. If you think that was wrong, than why is this alright?

I’m pretty sure I understand where you’re coming from, Chris, and while I wasn’t here for Wally’s posts, I’ve gone back and read them, and recognized how important he was to people here.
So, when it all comes down to it, what good does this do? You asked why he’s “given a pass,” and to be blunt, it’s because he’s dead and can’t defend himself. I understand that it’s important to know the truth, given that this message board is dedicated to fighting ignorance, but along the way, a real sense of community sprang up, a community which was demonstrated and tested when Wally passed away.
Yes, plagiarism is wrong, but what can we do about it now? What would YOU like to see come out of this, and is it anything vaguely positive?
The reason is of course unknown, but it is extraordinarily unlikely that he did so out of any other reason than to share something humorous with his friends.
With all the scrutiny his posts have had, and did have at the time, any large-scale or even repeated plagarism would likely have been found out by now. And none has, AFAIK. And there were a lot of people that Wally sparred with, who I am quite certain would have been crowing about it had they found out anything.
Posters, especially long-term ones, are “given a pass” on behavior all the time. Whether it be an inflammatory post, an offensive slip of the tongue, an admission of some horrible sin, a bit of copyright infringement, a dab of libel, a bitch about the Board or the Mods which is way out of line, or whatever.
Oh, come off it. You’re not an investigative journalist, this isn’t an expose, and you’re not being a noble defender of the truth.
It seems that he plagarized to an extent, yes. But what the hell are you trying to accomplish with this thread? Those that loved him and mourn him aren’t going to have their opinions of him radically altered by this ‘revelation.’ And I don’t think that the rest of us see the point in dragging a dead man through the mud.

As I said in my post, which you’ve quoted, we know about that one, there’s no way you can know about any others at this point, he’s not available to defend, explain, admit, or deny. So, what’s your intention here? to get people riled? to sit around a carp about some one who cannot comment back? Neither of those are well tolerated here.

For some reason, when I read that post, I assumed it was known, but not talked about. Obviously, I thought I missed that discussion and wanted the lo down on what was up.
There is something very wrong with trying to engage a group of people in a discussion accusing a dearly loved and deceased friend of wrong-doing, even if it is true. This is at best bad manners and and worst cruel.
Just like you would not relish informing a friend that his late mother was a tramp, you should not be doing this. And as there is nothing to gain from this thread other than your own information, there is no good to outweigh the bad.
