Which teams will be in the Rivals Top Ten for 2011?

Multiple choice: please limit your votes to 10.

(poll to follow)

This list is based on the teams remaining to be picked for Top X-number from
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1233107

Air Force was #29. Numbers 1-28 are yet to be chosen.

If you think Rivals has missed legitimate Top Ten teams, vote “Other” and post your choice(s).

The ranking number associated with each team is from
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt10.htm

Moderated: Poll closed at the request of the OP.

I voted for all the SEC teams on the list, then added a couple ACC and one Big XII and Boise for good measure. No Big 10 or PAC12 schools allowed. (My own internal bias).

Rave on, my man!

I wouldn’t vote for

if I were you.

Too bad, notfrommensa,

What are you talking about.

You mean the Georgia thing? Rivals has them at #27 so your Top Ten wuill be minus that one.

The point of the poll is not to pick your own personal favorites, but to predict who Rivals will pick in their preseason top ten.

My predictions for the teams in Rivals’ poll:

Oregon
TCU
Alabama
Boise State
LSU
Oklahoma
Florida State
Notre Dame
South Carolina
Texas

If weight of numbers in this poll is anything to go by (and I’m not saying it may be) then Rivals Top Ten should be near the top of this sorted list:

Here’s another that won’t make the Top Ten at Rivals:

As of this post it’s fortunate that nobody had voted for

Things appear to be stuck:

  1. The Voter count remains at 12
  2. The “list” has shown

for a couple days, in spite of

at http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1242782

  1. No posts to this thread by other than me

The poll closes in 15 days, There are 22 teams left before the Top Ten will be obvious. If you plan to make a guess, why wait?

Here’s where things stand after 15 Voters. The numbers on the right in parentheses are the Rivals rankings of those teams after the poll went up. Air Force was #29 and Auburn #30. Obviously, voting for any of those teams to make Top Ten would be counterproductive.

Odds are good that #21 will be announced today. Has anybody seen anything on the AP or Coaches preseason polls? When will they be out? How different will their Top Ten be from these teams?

According to 2011 Preseason College Football Polls
their most recently added poll’s results were from
http://www.columbiatribune.com/weblogs/behind-the-stripes/2011/jul/22/bts-preseason-countdown-whos-no-1/
which may be fun to compare with our own poll’s results.

If you happen to read this post before you vote, please be aware that our poll is to predict how Rivals will arrive at a Top Ten. Those numbers in parentheses on the right have already been chosen by Rivals since our poll went up with numbers higher than ten, so voting for them would be too late to matter.

Rivals #18 ought to be announced some time today.

Even though the

statement was calculated based on Rivals not posting choices over the weekends (which they have been doing) as soon as their #11 is announced I will ask the Mods to close this poll. Voting after that point would be silly.

The Doper with the best score of picking Top Ten teams will be announced at that time. So this week’s the time to put your predicting skills to work.

Updates:

I just don’t know how much help to provide to those waiting until it’s almost done to vote.

Now that the Coaches Preseason Poll is out, it may help in the decision making process to compare Rivals (so far) with the Coaches.

With these updates

there are only three more to be dropped before the Top Ten Rivals teams are determined.

We should know that by Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

Last call for votes!

With

that leaves only two teams to be dropped before the Top Ten are established. To prevent any last-minute voters from stealing the thunder from those who voted early, here are the results as of the Top 12, with as many as two teams to be deducted from the counts shown here:
