Let’s just do the top ten, because I don’t want to have to do the math for 25 teams.
Coaches have a football poll. So do sports writers. Computers have several. Let’s do a doper poll. Ever so often I’ll add up the points and we’ll have a SDMB poll. Final results will be posted on… let’s say Thursday. If this works, I may do it every week. So post your top ten, and I’ll add everybody’s up. Here’s mine to start it off:
You missed Wisconsin in your little update there, FYI.
Far from me to defend a Big 10 team, but at least it’ll get those pretenders at LSU/Ohio St/Stanford dropped a bit!
I thought we were taking a poll on the best teams in the country. If we were voting on who should be in the BCS championship game, then yes, an undefeated SEC champion should be #1.
But comparing schedules, Auburn has several close wins (3 points or less) against good to average competition (Clemson, Miss St, and Kentucky) while Oregon’s closest margin of victory is 11 points (average m.o.v. 39 points). Auburn has faced tougher competition, but Oregon gets credit for having a road-out of conference-out of region-against a BCS conference win (granted Tenn. isn’t that good this year, but they gave that undefeated SEC team LSU all they could handle).
Is your memory that bad? Texas - 5 years ago in 2005. They beat an undefeated USC team.
others receiving votes: Nebraska (4), LSU (4), Stanford (3), Florida State (1), Arizona
Well, there you go. What’s everybody think? Oregon and Auburn have a commanding lead at the top, Boise State, and TCU still got some love, and the rest of 'em are solid in their own spots till #10.
