Video of Ferrari 458 Spider driver running over cop's foot while he is writing a ticket -

Have to wonder what this driver was thinking.

Video (this link) is sharp as a tack.

http://jalopnik.com/5931907/watch-a-...his-ass-kicked

Quote:
I was walking around Soho, NYC today when I stumbled upon this Ferrari 458 Spider with a cop writing a ticket next to it. I started to record the situation because I thought it'd make a cool video, little did I know what I was in for. As soon as I started recording the owner of the car appeared and got in it. He slowly started moving since he refused to accept the ticket (the car was parked in a hotels valet zone and the hotel valet had the keys, I myself don't understand why the cop was giving him the ticket, it was approved by the hotel that the car was parked there.) The cop then told him to stop but he proceeded to move forward. Now at this point I believe the cops foot was under the front drivers side tire. Yet again the owner moved the car forward and apparently he somewhat ran over the cops foot (or at least that's what can be made out from everything in the video, others at the scene claimed otherwise.) This triggered the cop and he slammed his hand into the drivers window and proceed to open the door (notice how many times he bumped it into the taxi cab) and pull the driver out forcefully. The driver was then thrown on the ground and handcuffed and arrested. The owners girlfriend seen in the video is also Stephanie Pratt from the MTV hit show, The Hills. The car did suffer some damage, paint chips on the door from when the cop slammed it into the cab and some scuffs by the engine bay shown in the last scene of this video. Pretty crazy situation, I was definitely at the right place at the right time!

Correction: he was thinking with a bodily organ other than his brain. One which is pretty microscopic actually.

I don't know if the original ticket was justified, but the guy shouldn't have tried to drive away, and absolutely shouldn't have driven over the cop's foot. However, it does bother me a bit to see the officer reacting out of anger.

Guy's a complete fucking asshole.

The person who posted the video said:
Quote:
the car was parked in a hotels valet zone and the hotel valet had the keys, I myself don't understand why the cop was giving him the ticket, it was approved by the hotel that the car was parked there.
But as far as i can tell from a perusal of New York City's traffic rules (PDF), there is no such thing as a hotel "valet zone." There is such a thing as a "hotel loading zone," and as you can see from this Google streetview image, the area where the incident occurred is marked by a red sign that says:

NO STANDING
Hotel
Loading Zone

According to the NYC traffic rules i posted above, this sign means:
Quote:
No person shall stand or park a vehicle in such zone except temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in receiving or discharging passengers and their personal baggage at hotels.
Despite what the YouTube videographer might believe, a hotel loading zone is not the private property of the hotel, and the hotel valet does not get to decide who parks there, and for how long. If you are parked there, and are not actually engaged in the act of "receiving or discharging passengers and their personal baggage," then you're eligible for a ticket.

Well, analyze it this way: the cop has just been assaulted with a deadly weapon, and he is acting in self defence, getting the idiot away from the controls of that weapon as quickly as possible. Anger doesn't need to come into it: he just needs to take control of the situation, and get himself and others out of danger.

Driver deserved what he got - hope he gets a nice jail term for (attempting to) evade arrest and assault on an officer.

The driver was an idiot and I'm sure the cop's foot didn't feel too good, but to describe that as self-defense is a little overboard. The car was barely moving and all the officer had to do was step away from the wheel and he was in no danger.

The police. You can see that he is using his body to let the guy know to not drive off, and the guy tries anyway. For chrissake, it was just a simple parking ticket.

I don't know if he deserves to be convicted of an assault charge, but I think deserves to have the video go viral.

Meh. I'm one of the first people to criticize police physicallity, but this aint' it. They got the guy out of the car and they put him on the ground. It's not like they pumped 50 rounds into him and no one hit him.

The guy fucking deserved it and I hope he's charged with felony assault on a police officer.

How was he supposed to react when his foot was getting run over and the dude in the Ferrari was trying to drive off? He didn't go overboard in my eyes. I wonder why the cop didn't say anything to the guy when he hopped in his car and started it up though.

And I loved the nonchalant tossing of the safety cone..."here, just try not to run over his head but if you do I don't really care"

Professionally.

I wish we had a zero tolerance policy towards any excessive use of force by the police. No, they didn't pump fifty rounds into him, etc., but "zero tolerance" doesn't need to wait for such a skullfucking.

And sorry, having lived and worked in Manhattan for years, there was no 'running away' from the cops. Driving off? The cop could have called it in, then walked three feet to where the car would have been stuck in traffic, or walked ten feet to where he would have been pulled over.

That was some excellent fake limping by the cop once he realized he was on video. Someone once ran over my bare foot with a car that weighs more than a Ferrari, and it didn't make me limp like that. Of course, I wasn't sober at the time...

Anyway, the driver was a total douche, but I get the impression the cop was having second thoughts after a few minutes.

The tip of my right foot was run over by a 280Z once. It really did not hurt nor did it do any damage to my foot. I doubt that cop was hurt much if at all.

I'm the first to be outraged when cops get violent and abuse their power.

But it's hard to get all that outraged when the abusee so obviously deserves it.

The boggler is, someone who can afford a car THAT shiny and sporty can probably wipe their ass with hundred-dollar bills. And he's getting pissed at a parking ticket? Hope it was worth it, dude.

I hear ya. The look on the driver's face when he is climbing into the car says, "Oh, really? Let me demonstrate that I am Big People and you are Little People."

Who in their right mind thinks they can start a car and move it into/over/through a police officer standing in front of it? Of course you are going to get thumped on. Duh.

I normally side on the side of the people getting roughed up by the police, but I find so little sympathy for a Ferrari owner.

Parking tickets and petty regulations are what poor people have to deal with. I've got a fucking Ferrari and stupid cut-off shorts.

I don't know for sure, but don't cops wear steel toed shoes? Ferrari's are very light compared to most cars, and the engine is in the rear (technically mid) so the trunk is what was over that wheel. Finally, the tires are very wide on those cars further distributing the weight. I doubt the cop even felt much if anything on his foot.

Not that it makes it right to try to drive off from a simple ticket, but I don't think the cop was hurt.

FWIW, the 458 Spider weighs about 3,100 pounds and 42% is on the front wheels.

Given say tire inflation is 35 pounds per square inch and about maximum 8 square inches of foot involved , I'd say no more than 280 pounds force on the foot.

How is that calculated? I'm guessing it is an inverse relationship to the tire PSI (harder tire transmits more force to the ground/foot)?

Which is much better than my wife's mini-van which is 4,600 with probably over 60% on the front... or worse, could have been a Bentley.

Point 1 - Dude was actively trying to avoid a ticket, and was being a solid douche. He also (maybe) ran over the cop's foot, and it could be argued that was on purpose. I thought the cop was remarkably restrained considering that Solid Douche essentially flipped him off (did you see that face when he got in the car?) and then tried to nudge him out of the way with his car.

Point 2 - I liked how extra cop held Solid Douche's leg up in the air for a while to keep Solid Douche's head firmly attached to the road. That was classy. Even more classy was the halfhearted "enh" toss of the road cone presumably to keep SD from getting run over while they ignored him on the ground for a while to hopefully let the Douche seep out.

Point 3 - I REALLY liked how that limp kept getting worse and worse - each time the cop glanced up and saw one of the dozen cameras out and filming.

Points awarded all around!

I still think the cop is in the wrong here. As soon as he saw the guy walk into the car, he should have given clear verbal instructions to stay put. Instead he chose the stupid passive aggressive move of sticking his foot in front of the tire.

The Ferrari driver didn't seem like the type who would follow an officer's verbal instructions.

The cop is talking to guy -- check 0:10.

Now the person I feel badly for is the taxi driver, who is just trying to pass the cop writing a ticket.
