Thank God your mother was pro life. How would you know?

Stop me if we have done this one, but I saw the sign again yesterday. “Thank God your mother was pro life!”. Um, what? Everyone who has a baby is pro life now? News to me. How bout you? Did you know that?

EVERYONE is pro-life, except for the nihilists, maybe!

Now there are some people who are anti-abortion. And no, my mother is not anti-abortion.

I think abortions should be available at the post office, but I have 2 kids. It means a little more to my children that we weren’t forced to have them.

Every so often you hear a story on the news that the women is either 6 months along before they realize, or even worse, going into labor & didn’t even know she were pregnant. Can’t say they were pro life if they didn’t even realize there was a life growing in them.

lost4life, I vote for retroactive abortions; there’d be a lot less assholes in the world if we could go back in time & eliminate you.
(that’s the generic you, not you specifically)

Spiderman, I have given you a warning for personal insults. Your edit did not succeed in making it a general comment instead of a bash on lost4life.

I’m adopted. I was born in 1961, and there’s a pretty good chance that if abortion had been legal and easy to get back then, I wouldn’t be here.

That thought doesn’t bother me one bit. If the woman who bore me had gotten an abortion instead I certainly wouldn’t have known about it, or what I might be missing, and I can’t believe the world would have missed me at all.

My mother had at least one abortion before having me and my brother. So, yeah, fuck you, bumper sticker.

My mother was and is pro-choice and CHOSE to have me. That’s a big part of what pro-choice means.

That is what my mother and I think, too.
If you’re gonna have a “pro life” slogan (and I use the term loosely) at least think about it for 5 minutes first, before going to press…

lost4life, I thought my edit made my comment generic & not appear to be directed at you. It wasn’t directed at you; I have no beef with you & don’t know you. Sorry if it looked like I was attacking you personally, I wasn’t.

That’s the point: to associate “pro choice” with “will abort without a second thought, just 'cause.”

I know I was an accident. Almost 7 years between me and my brother. But I was born pre-Roe. I have no idea what her stance is on the issue. But I’m happy I’m here. Mostly.

It didn’t look like that to me. Well, it did, but not after your edit.

I’m pretty sure my mother is pro-choice. And my siblings and I were very much wanted and planned for.

Thanks Spiderman – we’ve been discussing this via PM, and I accept your explanation. I have decided to rescind your warning – although I think saying “them” instead of “you” would have been a better edit to make it clear that you weren’t attack lost4life, it’s not fair of me to wear my professional editor hat and my mod tiara at the same time.

twickster, for the SDMB

I’m lost (ha!). Not bothered, but I’m still reading it as though you have an issue with that fact that either A: I’m pro choice, or B: I had kids…or C: It’s been a long day and I’m still just reading it wrong.

I hope when my daughter is old enough to figure out that she was unplanned, inconvenient and ill-timed, she’ll also realise that she wasn’t a consequence that I was stuck with. Unplanned and wanted, inconvenient and loved, ill-timed and chosen. I hope, if she she realises that her conception was accidental, she’ll also realise the subdequent choice to have her was deliberate. Personally, if the circumstances of my birth were like hers, I’d take that any day over knowing Mum had me because she had no other option.

Do you know who else was Pro-Life?

Hitler’s mother!!

My mother probably would have aborted me if she could have. What am I supposed to take from that? She didn’t have a choice.

I think Spiderman was not only agreeing with you, but taking it even farther!

My mom made it well known that I was a ‘pill baby’ - if she had been pro-abortion and chose to ahve one, I would not be here to discuss it, so its a moo point.
