The universe decided I needed a puppy???

Yesterday I was filling up my car with gas when I heard honks and squealing tires. This ragamuffen dog was trotting down a major street, trying its best to get run over. I ran over to it, fulling expecting it to run the other direction, but I had to at least try to herd it away from the street. But as I approached, it just sat down and wagged its tail at me. Then it trotted over to my car, and I’d left the door open. The dog hopped into the car and looked at me like, “OK, I’m ready, let’s go.” So of course I had to at least get it away from the busy street, so I took it home and looked it over. It was very thin, filthy, no collar, obviously hungry and thirsty… but very friendly and happy nonetheless. So after a meal, some water, and a wipe down with a washcloth, here she is

I think she is about 6 months old, and may be a lab/pit mix. What do you think?

But I already have a dog, and 2 cats, and a husband, and 4 kids, and a job. Why in the world do I need a puppy?

Oooh, she is beautiful. You may not need a puppy, but she might need you. I assume you’ve looked on craigslist and everything to be sure she’s not lost?

Housebroken?

When the universe tosses a gift into your lap it’s bad manners to toss it back.

Sounds like you got a new puppy!

Congrats.

Beautiful dog.

So… it sounds like the dog is outnumbered and could use the moral support.

How are the cats and Shady getting along?

Precious puppy! At the very least, she has temporary refuge in your house, until another owner comes.

Of course, you may opt to keep her, if her puppy charms allow…

Adorable. You must have done something really good to get rewarded this way.

Mostly. One accident (peeing on the tile), then at 4:30 this morning she came to me whimpering to go outside. So she’s mostly housebroken.

Do you agree that she looks like a lab/pit mix?

Do you have a fenced in yard? That pup will need one. He’s so cute. I see the lab in him. You’ll know for sure if he jumps in the pool. My lab loved water.

Shady? The kids call her Cricket, but I think she looks more like an Athena.

The cats have let her know with a few whacks to the nose, that she needs to show them respect. She has mostly left them alone after that.

The back yard is fenced, and so far the puppy has had fun playing with our older dog. No pool to jump in, sorry pup!

Yes. Doesn’t mean she is.

Oh my goodness, what a fuzzy little angel!

Ha ha. Yes, sorry, you have a new puppy then.

Wow, what a cutie.

That’s a good looking dog. I agree with your guess about her genes.

Ah, here it is! http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=16163107&postcount=1

What a sweetie! Congrats on your new best friend.

Gorgeous girl! Lucky girl too  And she could be Lab/Boxer - something about the head says Boxer to me more than Pittie.

She beautiful! I think she’s more lab/boxer. I work in pit bull rescue and while she does have a that squarish head, I think it’s more boxer shaped than pit bull shaped.

She’s not wearing a collar, but she might be microchipped. Any vet office should be able to scan her for you for free and see if she has one. If not, congrats on your new puppy.
