I bought one this morning for the first time in probably 10 years, took a sip, and GOOD GOD is that sweet. It’s somehow, like, sweeter than sweet; a heaping spoonful of sugar and a Mountain Dew would actually reduce the sweetness taste in my mouth right now.
Is this just another symptom of getting old, because I remember drinking a ton of these things back in the day. Has Snapple always been hyper-sweet?
What flavor did you get? Several are overly sweet. I prefer the Diet Raspberry Iced Tea which has a nice, not overpowering raspberry flavor, and isn’t very sweet at all. More tart than anything.
Yes, Snapple has always been pretty sweet. Like nearly all “new and bettah!” drinks (although it’s been a while for Snapple), they present as somehow healthier than soda and then cram in just as much sugar. Vitamin Water is my current poster bottle in this regard (75% or more of the sugar in soda), although thank the marketing gods it can now be had in diet form.* The real joke was Clearly Canadian, which was marketed over rushing rivers and glass-clear lakes, and had so much sugar in it that dribbles turned into a sticky, dimensional crust on the outside.
I settled on Cherry 7-Up (diet) a few years ago as my not-water, not-beer drink. Almost as tart and dry as a good crisp beer and only slightly sweet; unlike most sodas I can drink it day after day without getting sick of the flavor or excessive sweetness. It’s hard to find in other than 2L, though.
Yes, diet water. Where’s George Carlin when you need him?
I recently spent the better part of a few weeks finding a replacement for my Sugar Free NOS that is no more… anyway ran across this.
Was impressed that the taste was smooth and not too sweet and gave me the caffeine I wanted (cant stand coffee). Also available in Pink lemonade and Green tea, both of which are pretty decent.
Still  at NOS though for ruining their offering.
