Diet drinks

I have decided to try and shed a few pounds. In addition to hitting the gym, I am cutting out the approximately two gallons of Coke per day that I am prone to drink in favor of diet drinks. Since Diet Coke tastes like swill and Diet Pepsi is only a smidge better, I have had to explore other avenues. I have found that Diet Sprite, Diet 7-Up and Diet Dr. Pepper are both pleasing alternatives, and Diet Cherry 7-Up is quite outstanding.

What diet drinks to you prefer? Any others that do a good job of masking the Nutrasweet aftertaste?

Diet Brisk Lemon Iced Tea is something I’ll drink. I can make no claims on its aftertaste or its level of deliciousness. It is sweet and low-carb, so I imbibe it every so often.

Congrats on your future improved health.

I know you’ve probably heard this a hundred times, but try to stay away from sodas all together if you’re trying to lose weight. Especially if you’re going to the gym, then drink water. I know it’s boring and lacks flavor, but your body will thank you for it. It does get easier over time to drink it, and soon, you’ll be pouring yourself a glass of water over popping open a can.

But, I do know the craving for something sweet to drink, particularly when I’m sitting down for a meal. I have found that Pepsi One is pretty good, considering it’s sweetened with sucralose rather than nutrasweet, so it doesn’t have that peculiar aftertaste. If you can find them, Jones Sodas have a short line of diet drinks that are also quite tasty (the black cherry soda is very good).

I also make my own little drinks by doing a 50/50 of fruit juice and sparkling water.

Just remember this: most regular sodas are about 150 calories per can. If you’re drinking alot of soda, let’s say 4 cans a day, then you’re drinking in 4,200 calories a week. Cutting out those sodas means losing a pound a week right there.

BTW, fruit juice doesn’t mean Tang or Kool-Aide.

[sub]My SO calls Tang & Kool-Aide “juice,” so I had to add that.[/sub]

Fresca is great, I think. Tasty and retro, what more could you want? Snapple also makes a Diet Peach Iced Tea that’s good.

I’m with JavaMaven1 on the juice idea but I’d go even further.

Throw things you like, even sweet stuff - melons, cherries(pitted), hell any fruit, in a blender and blend it.

Your mixers are then either sparkling water or whatever low fat low cholesterol milk is available locally. Not only delicous - make up your own recipes - but also food, thus filling. Helps to cut the eating load.

In summer my favourite is 5 parts watermelon, 1 part rockmelon(canteloup)…zzzzzzzzzzzz…water to taste.

I meant to mention that the only artificial sweetener that I have had that tastes reasonable is stuff called Splenda.

Diet coke for me. Maybe I like swill.

Slightly more calories, but healthy ones, is one third apple juice (100% pure, no sugar added) with two third diet 7Up. Great taste.

I had heard of sucralose. So that’s what it tastes like? Can’t say I’m impressed. Pepsi One tasted as diety as anything else.

I start my day with Diet Coke, but most of my fluid intake is water - especially the no-sugar-no-caffeine-no-sodium-artificially-sweetener-bubbly-flavored waters - I LOVE the black cherry flavor.

You and I must shop at the same store, FairyChatMom. I discovered these shortly after I began trying to lose weight and quickly found myself dropping soda altogether. I’m also a big fan of the white grape.

Diet Coke… Diet Pepsi…

What’s the difference?

(Head spins around to see if that blonde babe in the T-shirt shows up)

…bugger

If you can find it, Diet RC is really good. Sweetened with “Splenda,” whatever that is.

If you start drinking only diet sodas, I think eventually you’ll discover that it becomes difficult tell the difference between diet soda and sugar sweetened soda.

I switched a couple of years ago when my diabetes was diagnosed. (BTW, I like Diet Coke and Diet 7-up. I just discovered that Diet Barq’s is quite tasty, too.)

Twice this year I’ve been served regular Coke instead of Diet Coke by inattentive servers, and couldn’t tell. That’s a real problem, when you’re a diabetic.

Diet Coke with a twist of lime. There is no finer.

The acidity in the lime (and it’s gotta be lime- lemon doesn’t work as well, and there are pips) cuts the vaguely petrochemical aftertaste quite nicely- and makes the Diet Coke taste sweeter.

It’s also a good tip indicator- if the waitron can remember to give me limes with my Diet Coke refills, she/he gets a damn good tip. If they forget too often, tough noogies. All of the local restaurants know my preference now… it’s great, all I have to do is ask for “the regular”. They remember me by my drink preference.

Occasionally, though, other restaurants will give me Coke rather than the Diet stuff… That’s VERY annoying.

I found it to be just the opposite. I’ve been drinking diet sodas for close to 25 years, and I can tell instantly when I’m given a sugared soft drink - they taste TOO sweet. When my husband and I eat out and I get diet Coke and he gets regular, I have to be the taste-tester to be sure we were each given the correct drink - there is a definite difference - my palate wouldn’t lie!

I became addicted to Pepsi One in college, and when I started working here, I found out that the soda machine sold cans for only $.25. Several months later, when I realized I was drinking six or more cans each day, I told myself that I could do something much better with the $30 I was wasting.

So, now I’ve just got a 1-liter bottle of water that I refill periodically during the day. It saves me money, it makes me feel better, and I give a good deal of it to my plant Audrey III.

For those of you curious about the product “Splenda”, you can go to their website http://www.splenda.com and find all the products which use “splenda”.

Splenda is a WONDERFUL alternative for those who are unable to have NutraSweet products, such as myself (or even for diabetics). I suffer from massive migranes, and for some reason, one small taste of NutraSweet in my system sends me to the ER.

DietRite Cola’s are the only ‘diet’ soda’s avialable (to my knowledge) without NutraSweet. DietRite contains No Aspartame, No Sodium, No Caffeine, and No Calories.

Since I began drinking DietRite (and avoiding all drinks containing sugar), I’ve shed seven pounds rather quickly. It took me a while to get used to the taste (and after-taste), as in my life i’ve never had an alternative sweetner (other than sweet-n-low).

Seeing as I am a newbie, if I was supposed to use the registered trademark symbol, forgive me. I havn’t learned how to use it yet.

Diet Pepsi with a splash of lemon juice
Diet Rootbeer (A&W)
Diet Mountain Dew
Diet 7Up with a splash of cherry or grape juice
LOTS of ice

Diet Shasta grapefruit.

What can I say? I’m weird.
