Every time I see the promo for it I smell death.
The internet mocks the whole “A Very Special Episode” meme but it’s like they’re going there before the show even airs.
**All **the new comedies I’ve seen ads for so far are going to die swift deaths. This one (The Crazy Ones), Dads, Mom, Welcome to the Family…
Could you provide a clue for those of us without one?
Mom might make it. As might the Michael J. Fox Show. But I think the rest (especially one you missed, The Millers) are doomed.
Doomed from the get-go. SMG was tolerable with Joss at the helm. When she burned that bridge and married doofus, all sembelence of talent vanished. And the less said about Robin the better.
I give it 4 episodes at max.
Look for the trailer online. See if you agree.
Really? Brooklyn 99 is the only sitcom I’ve seen ads for that looks like it would be worth watching. Then again, maybe that is a sign that it won’t last - especially in a world where Chuck Lorre is considered funny.
Robin Williams isn’t funny when he’s trying to be funny, and for years he’s been trying too hard. Calling the show “The Crazies” doomed it, IMHO.
I haven’t seen the trailer – just the promo – which seems to be trading on Williams’ craziness. He’s just not that funny anymore.
If he’s going to be “Robin Williams”, yeah, it won’t last.
Trailer…Promo…I used them interchangeably, probably incorrectly.
(movie trailer voiceover) IN A WORLD…Where Two Broke Girls… gets another season…ANYTHING is possible!(/movie trailer voiceover)
Didn’t need to see the trailer, totally agreed. He should go serious, he’s better that way.
I see from the IMDB page that James Wolk is in it. Thus, I hope the series dies a quick, early death so that Wolk can get back to playing his “Mad Men” character Bob Benson. I mean really, SC & P just wouldn’t be the same without that snivelling, sycophantic fairy around. Who’d take Joan and her rugrat out for days at the beach?
I saw some commercials for it in those movie-theatre promos before the movie (you know, “the 20” or whatever). Looks like it’d be OK for a movie. I was kind of surprised it was a TV show - I remember thinking that there’s not going to be enough “there” there for a whole series. I don’t think it’ll go far.
On Youtube was a “behind the scenes” promo. youtube link The promo didn’t look too bad.
But I could predict it’s downfall would be that it’s about Robin Williams being eccentric… all the time. That schtick could get old fast.
My daughter, Princess Pepperwinkle, who lived for Buffy all through high school and who thinks Allison Hannigan can do no wrong, thinks SMG can’t act her way out of a Mork & Mindy lunchbox. Doom. Doooooom!
Maybe, but SMG is supposed to be the “straight man” in this comedy act.
My SO loathes Robin Williams with every fiber of his being - I am going to have to watch this alone, when SO is out of the house, or things will be flung at TV.
That said, I am not all that optimistic…Robin Williams’ schtick can be funny for a few minutes, but it does get tiring after a certain point, and at least from the previews of this show, he is going to over-do it and ham it up.
We’ll see - but other than great ratings the first week or two out of curiosity, I think the audience might start to dwindle quickly.
That’s just not fair.
SMG was not the best actor on Buffy. But there were times when she not only delivered , but she hit it out of the ball park.
“Mork & Buffy”?
