I am curious. I am taking a supplement called Tocosorb which is a mix of tocotrienols from vitiman E. I have read studies that claim it increases Testosterone levels. I am a male at the age of 30 and wonder if this could deepen my voice.
I take 1 capsule every other day. Could this deepen my voice? I do voice over work and do not want my voice to change. Am I being paranoid or is my concern valid? You guys seem smart so I figured I would ask here Thanks
Yes, but those aren’t your body’s natural testosterone. The pills you are taking just boost natural testosterone production, if they even affect testosterone at all. (I couldn’t find any studies.)
Anabolic steroids are more like natural hormones. And, yes, those can in fact lower the voice, even beyond puberty. It happens with post-op trans men all the time.
That’s what I was thinking. Also the supplement that the OP is taking might raise your testosterone by 30 or something - so your total test range would be between 300-900 +30, which I wouldn’t imagine would be enough to do anything.
People who take testosterone for bodybuilding typically take 3x’s as much and sometimes a whole lot more.
That said, the fundamental frequency(ies) of a person’s voice depend on other factors as well. Some of those “other factors” can be changed by the administration of androgens (i.e. ‘male hormones’ including testosterone).
That a person’s voice frequency can change even post-puberty, is illustrated by the observation that women who have, say, tumors producing testosterone or other male hormones, can have deepening of their voices (cite; cited for convenience not profundity or conclusiveness).
In addition to vocal cord length, some of the factors that influence voice frequency are*:
increase in breathing capacity
increase in neck length and width
enlargement of the vocal tract and resonatory system (i.e. the larynx)
growth of the paranasal sinuses and nasal turbinates
atrophy of the tonsils and the adenoids
The last three of these will lead to an enlargement of the effective resonating chamber for voice and thus lead to longer wavelengths (lower frequency) being generated.
Guys thanks for the info. A lot of good points here So do you guys think something like taking this supplement could deepen my voice? I am confused…I tried looking up how much testo it takes to deepen ones voice. But I cannot find any studies.
I doubt the studies you’re looking for exist. They’d be almost impossible to set up with enough patients to have meaningful results. And retrospective data’d be hard to come by.
I also doubt that what you’re taking has any significant effects, but if you’re worried about it changing your voice, stop taking the stuff. It’s not been demonstrated to be of worth. Other than to the company that sells it to folks.
As I posted moments ago in another thread, the extent of my medical knowledge could probably be transcribed on a matchbook cover. I have, however, been prescribed testosterone supplements in the past. As an active chorister, I noted no effects of any kind on my vocal range.
Whether or not testosterone supplements can deepen one’s voice and whether or not the product you are using is in any way doing anything at all are two wholly separate questions. You are wasting your money.
Thanks guys. But if there is a testo increase it has the possibility to deepen my voice right? I believe this stuff helps my hair. Thats why I take it. But I do not want to deepen my voice at all.
Increasing one’s testosterone levels generally accelerates hair loss. So if it’s actually helping your hair do anything except get thinner, it’s probably not boosting your testosterone.
But if you really don’t want your voice to change, leave it alone. Oh, and don’t smoke.
Keep in mind that the OP finds it difficult to take medical advice when he’s already made up his mind on a subject. See his thread on toxic root canals for his discussion style.
I do think this tocosorb is helping my hair. I have seen a thickening since I started taking it. I do not want to stop over potential “paranoia.” I am only taking it every other day right now. I just wish someone had some science to make me feel better about taking this. I do not want to deepen my voice but I also want to keep my hair I mean does it take a lot of testo to deepen someones voice?
am I being paranoid or is my concern valid? I guess that is what I am trying to figure out. I also read that running increases Testo levels. So maybe I should not be concerned?
When I was started on Clomid, which raised my testosterone level to about 850, the first sign I noticed of increased T production is that my nuts got about 10-20% bigger. So, unless you’ve had a similar occurrence, you probably needn’t worry about the ill effects of your quote-unquote testosterone supplement.
