In the general questions area. I posted that I was an accounting student looking for a summer job and wanted to know if someone could make a suggestion(Perhaps my wording wasn't the best, but it wasn't like I posted a resume or anything). I then get my message kicked off the board and told not to write any such message ever again. Geez c'mon, I realize noone wants this to become some sort of employment board, but does anyone really think that would happen? I wasn't even really expecting much of a response(I only got one sarcastic one about McDonalds) I suggest to you that if my question was invalid then any technical questions (such as computer technical problems) are also invalid.(Who wants this to be a tech board?)

I'm sure that noone would respond anyway as I kinda got mad at Lynn, but I mean Geez, can't anyone get a life? Is it really that big of a deal?

What makes you think that the person who suggested McDonald's was being sarcastic?

I just read your thread...

Yes, Lynn was a little terse (can't blame any of the mods or admins for that... they probably get tired of closing/moving threads, warning people to behave, etc.) but IMO you over-reacted a bit...

I can't comment on how appropriate the OP was, as it was edited before I saw it.

Hey, I made the mistake of insulting McDonalds workers in this forum recently and was soundly slapped. And rightfully so.

Besides, working at McDonald's requires a level of people-interaction skills, something that Mssr. Doggie could use some work on.

"My kingdom for an original Pit thread!"

Stu, you're new, so I'll restrain myself... but you're an idiot. You're asking for job suggestions at an online message board, and you tell US to get a life? Methinks you should reconsider your whole employment strategy.

In addition, I would recommend that you not try to burst in on the scene and try to tell people who have been here for two years how to do their job. Employers frown on THAT, also.

Also, you really should learn how to read, as we have a forum known as IMHO if you want to get people's input about a matter of opinion (hence the title "In My Humble Opinion"). Literacy will also go a long way towards gaining employment.

Finally, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Calling someone a "control freak" because they're following policy would probably also be frowned upon at any job you may hold in the future. For example, if you started taking money out of the cash register, and your manager asked you not to do that, would that make him a "control freak"?

I hope these little tips help you both with your employment opportunities and with your continued posting here at the SDMB, you sack of distilled monkey cum.

OK, one simple technical question, not having been able to read the OP in the thread in question...

Would his thread have been OK in MPSIMS?

I beg to differ. This Board is a GREAT place to explore employment opportunities.

Why, in the last week alone, DAVEW007 made me a sign to hang around my neck that reads "Will Edit for Food," and Eve put in a good word for me down at the factory where they make the little straw hats for horses.

So in other words, your thesis is "I should be able to post my want-ad, but I don't expect or want anyone else to do the same." Swell THAT's the sort of rigorous logic and clear thinking that I look for in an accountant. Your future looks bright, my lad.

Quote:

Tech questions tend to have general applications that anyone can use ("I get a message about "invalid system disk" when I boot. Am I doomed?") whereas Want Ads (HI! I'm a professional nose picker who majored in puppy-juggling in college and I'm looking for work in Saskatoon as an underwater basket-weaving performance artist") are of no use to anyone but the poster. Personal employment ads are spam. They're purely commercial postings. And they're boring to EVERYONE.

Boy, you'd make a great employee: "Yeah, I came in a couple o' hours late, and the books don't quite balance, but I mean Geez, can't you get a life? Is it really that big a deal?" [/b][/quote]

May I suggest that if you ARE "tired of the mods", that you find a different board where the mean-ol'-mods won't upset your delicate constitution? Perhaps you could form your own board where all spammers could post in peace and freedom.

And as for calling Lynn a "control freak", may I suggest that A) the sting is probably diluted by the fact that you are somewhat less literate than a chimpanzee, (if your accounting is remotely as sloppy as your writing, your future clients will be in a lot of trouble.) and B) your head is so far up your ass that you can adjust your tie by clenching your sphincter.

Fenris (who's really getting sick of these "Mods won't let me poop in the sandbox. I hate them!" threads.)

The absolute irony is that had you phrased your OP differently and placed it in the appropriate forum, you would almost certainly have received from other posters not just useful links but a number of personal contacts to follow up.

Must...control...hand...of bitch slapping....

What the flying hell is "noone"? What, you want to work lunchtime at your local Ren Faire? It's "no one", as in "No one is going to hire a keyboard banging, drooling, random chromosome missing pillock who brays "Get a life!" whenever he's met with a little criticism."

Thank you. I await your instructions to mellow out and aquire a pulse, or whatever.

I am also REALLY fucking sick of the moderators!!

They are always moderating and stuff! Gee whiz!

Fucking SHOW OFFS!! Doing their jobs all the time. Rude rude rude.

They should be slackers like the rest of us! Thats what we need - slack mods - so everyone can complain about THAT for a change!!

So Stu doggie, or Stud oggie, or however it breaks down...
you can piss and moan all you want, but if you can READ at all, you will see nobody feels very sorry for you.

I sure dont.

And the 'get a life thing' works both ways too you know.

Regarding the original thread:

Quote:
(bolding mine)
So get a life, censure me if you must (it's not like it'll be that hard to get around it anyway)

Yeah, let me recommend you to my boss right away! Idiot. Nothing like hiring someone who doesn't want to do things right the first time, complains when they are corrected/admonished and makes not-too-subtle insinuations to subvert the rules/contract/member-agreement of the very institution they were coming to, hat in hand. It just screams "Winner!"

Hey, what I would like to see is a pit thread started by the mods, complaining about how they are getting tired of US...because I am sure they ARE, quite frequently.

Wow, Stu, been here a whole three months and you're already tired of our mods?
I mean, I've been here that long EGADS!, and I find them to be more and more amusing everyday. Another 200 posts under my belt, and I'll even start callin' Coldie by that other name. ClogMod, you silly, not the "N" word!
Maybe you need to post a list of how they could better amuse you, 'cos, believe me, your enjoyment is their number one job. Hell, all of us feel that way.

Isn't "government work" in the same vein as "Microsoft Works"...i.e., and oxymoron?

Actually, you wanted to know if anyone wanted to hire you. In effect, you posted a "position wanted" ad, and you posted your credentials, such as they are. Advertising is strictly and expressly forbidden on this message board. I routinely remove such postings, it's one of my first priorities. If you want to advertise, you're gonna have to pay. There's a reason for this. Look at just about ANY unmoderated newsgroup. The spam pretty much makes the newsgroups unreadable now.

By the way, as a general rule, if a new poster starts such a thread (one that's pure advertisement), I usually just yank posting privileges, I don't issue any warnings. Consider yourself lucky. You should also consider yourself lucky in that I was and am replying as a staff member, instead of as another poster, so I am not using the language that I would prefer.

I think there is a typo in the OP that has lead to a general misunderstanding about Studoggie's intentions. I'm pretty sure the first sentence should read "I posted I was a counting student looking for a summer job..." You see, he finally finished the second grade and is ready to finally get a job and move out of mom and dad's basement.

I think we should all be a little more supportive. There aren't many jobs that will meet Studoggie's "special needs", and we should give him all the help we can to find one.

Maybe he could be the guy who stands by the donut conveyer at Krispy Kreme and picks out all the squashed ones. No, cancel that -- he might touch the other donuts too.

What if we gave him a long pointy stick like those people who pick up trash by the side of the road? That'd keep him at a safe distance.

Well, if the stick proves too complex, we could have a Darwin Award on our hands. The way I see it, it's a win/win situation.
