The Great SDMB Winter 2014 Postcard Exchange!

Northern Piper and melodyharmonius have run them in the past, and they’re always fun. But it’s been awhile, so I’ve decided to kick off the New Year with one.

Here’s how it works (as adapted from NP’s previous thread):

If you want to get three (3), count 'em, THREE! postcards from witty and intelligent Dopers from around the world, just sign up here, and send me a PM with your real-life name and postal address. (You know, post - you put a stamp on it, put it in a post box, and a postal carrier will pick it up and deliver it - I’m sure if you’ve forgotten how to do it, it will come back to you before you know it).

Cut-off for signing up for the first round is noon EST on Tues. Jan. 28. I’ll take all the names and addresses received by PM by that date, and will then send out PMs to each of you with the names and addresses of the three Dopers to whom you’ll send postcards. Don’t sign up unless you intend to do your very best to participate. I’ll try to ensure that everyone gets at least one postcard from someone from another country. (Offer depends on availability of world-wide Dopers signing up. No warranty of world-wide Dopers is offered, express or implied. Terms may vary depending on local laws. Offer void where prohibited. You need not be sane to win. Do not adjust your dial, write if you get work, hang by your thumbs, &c &c &c).

You then purchase three (3!) postcards which you want to share with other Dopers. It’s up to you what themes to select. Local color is always good, especially if you’re sending it to a world-wide Doper. Bear in mind that some Dopers may have small children, so nothing X-rated, please. Address them. Write a short, clearly-written message to the Doper, who is going to be just thrilled to hear from you. Be sure to use your SDMB username, so they know who sent it to them. Get stamps and put them on the postcards. Put the postcards in your local mail slot, and off they go!

Deadline for posting your postcards is two weeks later, by Tues. Feb. 11. Please report back here as soon as you’ve posted them.

Gird your loins and wait with saintly patience (this is particularly hard for some Dopers, I remember well from the other threads). Soon enough, postcardy goodness will arrive in your mailbox.

Then, report back here that you’ve started receiving Doper postcards. Huzzah!

If all goes well, there may be another round later in the spring. However, Dopers who sign up and then don’t carry through with postcards in this round may find themselves excluded, yea, verily, even exiled to the outer Pit, rather than being allowed to sign up for the next. Decisions on this point are left entirely to my sole, but hopefully not too arbitrary, discretion. So don’t let your fellow Dopers down.

And we’re off…

I’m in! I have three postcards I bought for the next exchange the last time we did this just sitting my my computer.

PS. You forgot to include a link where we can email you our real names and addresses. Unless you have been recruited by the NSA…

I’m in! Sending PM now.

Do we include our real names on the cards themselves as well, or just our Doper names?

That’s up to you, as long as your writing is legible. I’ve always put both.

Sure - it’s been fun in the past to get random postcards!

PM sent.

Thanks Elendil’s Heir! I had hoped to start it last fall, but that darned real-life thing intervened!

I’ll PM you my address.

I’m in!

I’m in! Three postcards is dead easy.

I am in, PM sent. I have some fun cards I picked up for the last run.

Excellent! Keep 'em comin!

Hurrah! I’m in. LOVE postcards.

Off to PM you my name & address, Elendil’s Heir!

Ooooh! I’m in! I’ve never done this one before – though the Secret Santa and Cards for Kids have been fun.

I’m in! Yaaay!

I’m in. PM sent.

Add me in.

This will be fun. We just moved to a new house.

Don’t let the name fool you, we actually live in Taiwan. I haven’t actually physically mailed a letter since I moved to Taiwan a year ago, so I’ll have to find out how it works. I’m really happy for the step-by-step instructions.

Cheers,
Dave

My thanks to everyone so far. We have 15 folks signed up, of whom 5 are non-U.S.

I’m in - fashionably late!
pm on the way to you.

This sounds like the craziest thing ever… I LIKE IT!!!
I’m in
