Ok so I thought nothing about kissing a girl with a cold sore since odds are I got hsv1 like 90% of the population. But then I realized she kissed my cheeks, forehead and everywhere on my face. Beck she could have even kissed my eyes when I had them shut or at the corners.
So if I have hsv1 am I safe from catching these cold sores? If not do you think my face will be full of coldsores on cheek chin forehead etc? Im usually real careful…such a stupid mistake. I also had protected sex with her because I didn’t see any cold sores down there. What do you guys think?
Well, frankly after all this kissing and carrying on, I would be worried that the next thing she would want to do is go dancing. Or a meal out. Or meet the family.
HSV requires mucous membranes for infection, so your cheeks and forehead are safe. The most likely site of infection is your lips, as that’s where oral heroes prefers to live. However, eye infections are possible and can be quite severe. Luckily, they are also rare.
If you start getting any symptoms (tingling, burning, swelling) on the lips or eyes, go to your doctor, explain what happened and ask for a prescription for Valtrex. It has very few side effects/contraindications and controls the outbreaks and limits their duration.
FTR, I’ve had oral herpes my entire life. I get fever blisters frequently, especially when stressed. I’ve kissed several people while I had a fever blister (only with their consent) and none of them have ever had an outbreak. Certainly not conclusive, but I relay this to let you know that transmission is not a given.
You’ll get herpes gladiatorum… at some very small chance.
Well there’s a tiny chance that you have no immunity to HSV 1 and this version is tuned in to creating large infections all over your body.
Sometimes HSV1 has the following symptoms.
Herpes whitlow is a painful infection that typically affects the fingers or thumbs. On occasion, infection occurs on the toes or on the nail cuticle.
Individuals that participate in contact sports such as wrestling, rugby, and football(soccer) sometimes acquire a condition caused by HSV-1 known as herpes gladiatorum, scrumpox, wrestler’s herpes, or mat herpes, which presents as skin ulceration on the face, ears, and neck. Symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat and swollen glands. It occasionally affects the eyes or eyelids.
Take multivitamins for the next week and avoid binge drinking, and get plenty of sleep… (no stress.)
Crap. I grabbed her hands last night and noticed both hands felt bumpy in a certain area. I thought it was dry skin because it was dark. Im gonna have to look at her hands tonight.
I read that only 10% of people who get hetpes gladitorm get dores though. Man this sucks.
This is an internet forum - you are seeking medical opinions -
of course you are going to not only contract teh most severe form of whatever it is you think you may have caught, you will also get all the worst horror stories surrounding it.
Like - how if you have ever had a root canal - you’re guaranteed to get it.
I am kinda. Thats why I decided to face my fears and just thought " dude everyone has oral herpes…thats pretty normal." But now im realizing it was too risky. I am staying st her place right now. Tonight might be kinda awkward. She’s letting me stay for free for a week while im in town for business. So I hate to complain about it, she’s only got one bed too. So its kinda like im caught in a tricky situation. Besides her cold sore she’s a really hot and is nice. So im just gonna keep my distance tonight maybe though.
