In which flodnak wonders how many people can't sleep for wondering what flodnak means

Well?

Cure my insomnia.

I beg you.

Well, if you read “flodnak” backwards, it sounds kind of like “Gandalf.” (Please forgive me, it’s late, and I can’t sleep.)

I can’t sleep anyway.

But I have wondered.

I, also, am experiencing difficulty sleeping. I’ll guess.

“Flodnak” is an Icelandic term meaning something or other.

Well, I remember a flodnak from my days over at alt.folklore.urban. If you’re the same person, then I know what it refers to. Took me a while to figure it out, though; I almost got into an accident at the time from smacking my forehead while driving.

–sublight.

Har! Do I get any points for being around when the original ‘definition’ was floated on a.f.u.? Do I lose points for believing it?

panchitaville, you’re so warm you’re going to burn yourself.

Sublight, how many flodnaks could there possibly be?

Pork Rind, eep, so my face is red, but what was the “original definition”? I forget :o

I will reveal the answer soon… bwahahahaha

Back in '93? '94? the claim was made that Flodnak was Norwegian for “baby”.

At the time, I had a friend that spoke Norwegian and when I asked him about the term, he stared at me like, well, like I was an idiot.

I hope I haven’t given anything away. I don’t think that there are any useful clues above. Just one wrong answer among the infinity of wrong answers.

A quick search on the web gave me this: “Først da fikk han vita at Flodnak er Kandolf baklengs”, so there you have it.

I have a funny feeling your real name’s Cindy.

All right, this should take care of the question for once and for all.

I hunted around the AFU Message Board Archives, and found the name Cindy Kandolf.

So flodnaK is Kandolf spelled backwards.

There you go, Cindy, you can quit acting coy now.

Erm, nothing personal, Jomo Mojo, but you do realize I have to kill you now, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay. That’s it. Yinz all know it. So I don’t ever have to bring it up on the SDMB again. Nothing more to see here, folks, move on.

Part of me feels like a real dope for not stopping by to say “hi” when I was in Oslo last month…

Great city though! Nice sailing.
