I keep seeing it in people’s sigs and such. What does it mean, and where did it come from, and what language is it? For some reason, I keep thinking it’s related to Discordianism, which is a Pagan religion devoted to Eris, the Goddess of dischord. (I read about it in Drawing Down the Moon, can’t remember the author)Am I right?
Close, and not so close. It’s a word tied to the Illuminatus! trilogy, in which Discordianism and Eris figure largely. It doesn’t really mean anything, it’s just sort of a magic word. Do you see the fnords? Of course you don’t, because they’ve brainwashed you, and that sort of thing.
You can see the fnords? Truly are you on the way to Illumination.
[Read Illuminatus by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson]
I have a couple sitting here with me now. Very illuminating! [sub]or is it the Jack?[/sub]
Sometimes the old jokes are the best, and sometimes they’re not.
And, as usual, the Master has addressed this question (obliquely) in Does May Day actually commemorate the birth of the Illuminati?
You’re not cleared for that.
Seriously, I don’t know
what any of you people
are possibly talking fnord
about.
Have you driven a Fno-o-o-o-ord, lately?
If you can’t see the fnord it can’t hurt you.
As a side note, has anyone noticed that Robert Anton Wilson And Robert Shea = RAW ARS, phonetically very telling as to George’s homosexual urges.
We now resume to our current broadcast, already in progress.
My parrot’s not dead, he’s just pining for the fnords.
I wouldn’t call Discordianism Pagan. Heck, I wouldn’t even call it a religion.
Damn…I always thought Fnord was Hagar the Horribles dog.
Reeder - that’s Snert.
