I was out for a ride on Thurs. morning and was about a half mile from home, passing a strawberry field (seemed to go on forever ), when i spotted large cat sitting on the dirt verge, looking rather forlorn. As I approached, she jumped and ran to me, crying.
I stopped to pet her and she climbed in my lap!
I was halfway between two residential areas and had no idea where she might have come from. No collar or ID.
She stayed on the bike for the short trip home and I packed her in a carrier for a trip to the vet.
She’s flea-free, no leukemia or any sign of disease. Not chipped, either. About a year old and now up to date on shots.
i took some photos and put up flyers but I’ve heard nothing since so I feel like we have a new boss.
She’s a Maine Coon mix and has the temporary name of Derry. If you have name ideas, shout 'em out.
Warning:Gorgeous kitty pictures ahead.
That is a truly beautiful cat. Maybe she got lost? Have you tried some animal lost and found site?
Two years ago we saw a cat walking on the street side in our street, which is unusual. Most local cats move at the back of the houses, where the yards are, so I suspected she was lost. Very emaciated and directionless she looked, too. Most cats seem to know where they are going, scurrying from one hangout, through familiar paths and ways, to the next. She just seemed to trudge along. And her long fur looked matted. My husband lured her in our yard with some food while I looked up the lost pet register online to see if a cat of her description was missing. And there she was, reported missing since two weeks ! I locked her in the shed untill the animal rescue people came for her two hours later to reunite her with her owner. Turns out he lived on the other side of town, at least three miles away. Cat was truly lost.
See, that’s what I don’t get. It was only 3 miles. Yet you hear stories of cats
trudging across the county, to go back to their homes. Is it simply a lack of motivation?
Honey, the more i know of animals, the more i see they have as much individual variety as humans do. Some have exceptional talents or perform extraordinary feats; most not. Some stories get bigger in the - human- retelling, or get told wrong entirely.
As a Stephen King fan, I can’t help thinking that “Derry” might be an unfortunate name, though. I hope she isn’t haunted by creepy clowns every few years…
